Rose Garden
You stand in a small rose garden dazzled in white, red, and yellow. Placed in an
circular pattern about the garden, a walkway made up of small, uplifted ceramic
tiles form rings of walking space surrounding a large golden mallorn planted in
the center. Shade from its limbs splay outward over this walkspace to provide
for a pleasant atmosphere. Here and there, benches, one with a lamp rising up
out of the ground next to it, are placed for guests to enjoy the shade and the
scenery.
To the south, a tall hedge hides the entrance to the shaded lawn. East, among a
gnarly set of old oak trees, a small path leads to the Apothecary, while to the
North another path leads to the Northern Gardens. To the West, a gate leads out
to the Golden Roadway. Lastly, to the side, sparkling beneath a silver arch, a
set of stairs can be seen leading to a talan up above. Reaching out to the
bright sun, the flowers are open in full bloom.

A bright red disc hangs high in the sky, announcing midday with a brilliant
light and comforting warmth. A soft spring breeze blows from the north, bringing
with it the scents of crisp mountain air and delicate fragrances from distant
lands. The Bards of Lothlorien sing sweetly, complimenting the natural sound of
birds flittering through the wood.
Wandering into the Rose Garden, the Carpenter Ereduinthil hums in time with the
song filtering through the air. Pausing, he bends to smell a deep red rose. As
he rises to his standing height, the ellon smiles. "Lovely, just lovely," he
mutters to no one in particular.
Eruanna slowly meanders into the Rose Garden. Picking her way through the roses,
she bumps into somebody, not noticing him. "Oh, I'm sorry! What's youre name?"
she asks politely, apologizing profusely.
As someone bumps into him, Ereduinthil turns. "No reason to be sorry," he says
quickly with a smile. Placing a hand at his waist, the ellon bows, "I am
Ereduinthil, a carpenter in these woods, and I'm most pleased to meet you......
I'm sorry, I don't recall your name."
"Oh, I'm Eruanna. I don't recall meeting you before." she replies. "I'm pleased
to meet you, too." Hearing another elf come in, she turns. "Oh, what's your
name? I'm Eruanna."
Ereduinthil chuckles softly, "We've never actually met, but I'm sure we've seen
eachother at least once in our long lives," the carpenter says as he steps away
from the rose bush that had drawn his attention. "Tell me, what brings you to
these lovely gardens?" He pauses a moment and glances towards the Healers Talan
above. "Are you by chance one of the Healers?"
"No, we haven't met, but we probably have seen each other." she agrees. "I've
come here to enjoy the roses; they're one of my favorite flowers. No, I'm not a
Healer, but I'm actually thinking about becoming one." she admits.
"Those who count themself among the ranks of the Healers are to be admired."
Ereduinthil says with sincerity. "I myself am a Carpenter," he says patting his
tool bet. "Certainly, we must do that which makes us happy, and the creation of
objects with wood does this for me."
Smiling again, he looks around the gardens, "This is one of my favorite gardens,
and while I've never thought about it, I suppose the rose is my favorite as
well."
"Do you like it here?" she asks the newcomer warmly. "Hmm. When did you become a
Carpenter, Ereduinthil? I, personally am going to apply for the position of a
Healer soon. Have you been a Carpenter for long?" she inquires.
"Speak with Ostiel, she is an Attendant within the Healers guild," Ereduinthil
says with a glance towards the Healers Talan. "More often than not, she is
easily found, and more than pleased to help others." Again he chuckles softly,
"I suppose how she works with others is what drew her to the Healers. Tell me,
is it the same for you? Or is there another reason for your interest."
"Me? I became an Apprentice Carpenter well beyond 500 years ago."
"Ostiel? I'll speak with her. I think I've seen her around occasionally. Do you
know her well? So that's not too long ago. I think that for me, it's because I
love helping others and I don't like any violence, and there's nothing violent
about being a Healer. There's another reason that I just can't place at the
moment, but I'll think of it later. So you've been a Carpenter for a while, but
not that long." she conceeds.
"I think I've met or seen everyone at least once," the carpenter says with a
grin. "When you're with the crafters guild, the opportunities to meet and speak
with others is rather high."
"I agree, there is nothing violent about being a healer, but sadly you must deal
with the effect of violence on those you will treat. I'm not sure I could be
strong enough for that." Ereduinthil comments with a shake of his head and a
droop in his smile.
"That's true," Eruanna admits. "You do have to deal with the effects of
violence. I'd say I'll probably be strong enough to handle it. I've seen some
pretty bad effects of violence before." she replies with a bit of sadness in the
last sentence.
The smile fades completely and is replaced with a frown. "I'm sorry to hear
that, Eruanna," the carpenter says in a soft voice. "Though these lands are fair
to look upon, and the Lady Galadriel protects all as it once was in the world,
too often evil invades or touches upon one within our land."
Sighing heavily Ereduinthil peers at Eruanna, "I think you will do well, you
seem strong of heart."
"It's okay; it happened around two thousand years ago. That's true; the Lady
Galadriel protects us and our home, but sometimes evil comes." she replies,
sighing softly. She smiles and says, "Thanks. People who know me well have told
me that as well."
"It's the crafters eye," Ereduinthil says with a wink, "We can spot both flaws
and assets in all that we approach. After a time we seem to have that knack with
people as well."
Glancing around the garden, the Carpenters smile returns. "Other than a desire
to become a healer and a love for Roses, what else do you pass the time with
Eruanna?"
"Hmm. Interesting," Eruanna muses. "Other than those things, to pass the time, I
explore Lorien, get to know more fellow Galadhrim, and so on. What do you do to
pass the time other than being a Carpenter and enjoying roses?
"Is there anything more to life other than Carpentry?" Ereduinthil tsks as he
digs into a pocket of his tool belt. After a moment, he pulls out a small
notebook and a pencil. "Alas, I have to do a few sketches so that I might chisel
a rose design into a chair I'm considering." Looking towards the elleth, he
smiles, "Perhaps we can meet again." With that, he wanders off into the garden,
carefully inspecting roses as he goes.
