| AT's vs. MT's Since I didn't have the money to lift my Jeep right away I wanted to get the tallest tires that would fit at stock height. I was considering the BFG AT's since I use my Jeep as a daily driver. But I decided it would be worth having MT's for the times I would be wheelin. So I went down to Discount Tire Co. and picked up a set of four 31"x10.50" BFG MT's and had them mounted on the stock 15"x8" rims. I bought a warranty from the them for $10 for each tire so if I tear a sidewall or puncture hole in one of the them that is too big to repair all I have to pay for a brand new one is $20. They will also repair a tire for free if you get a nail or screw stuck in it (like I did). Since I was only planning on using the 31's for one year until I get a lift, I didn't get a matching spare. I figured that I would just go pick up a used 31" MT to save some cash. It took a while, but I finally found a brand new BFG AT 31"x10.50" for only $30!!! Ya I know, not the same tread pattern, but it will definitely get me off the trail if I get a flat. |

| MT's Roll to Victory Over AT's This has got to be one of the best mods I've made. I've gone through all kinds of mud, sand, snow, and rocks only getting stuck once on a really fuckin steep ass hill. As you can see in the pic above, when aired down to 14 psi., these tires get pretty squishy. Although they're wider than the stock 9.50" tires, they only rub the control arms every once in a while. However, it's easy to compensate for so I didn't bother to adjust the steering stops. They aren't noisy at all on the highway, they handle great on-road and off, and the meaty treads make my Jeep look pretty damn tough, even without a lift!!!! |
