| This is my Jeep the day I brought her home 6-21-00. What a glorious day!!! Little did I know that by the next day I would have no job to pay for it. That's right, the next day I got laid off from my job at Gear.com, along with 10 other people due to downsizing. Can you believe that shit?? What a dissapointment.......another dot.com bites the dust. Oh well, at least I have my Jeep!!! The shitty thing is that I still had to sell my car to pay back my parents for spotting me on the downpayment (she had been sitting on the lot for a month and I had to grab her before someone else did!). At least I got a months worth of pay and I got on unemployment right away. So I spent the next two months interviewing at REI headquarters and praying that I would get the job (they already turned me down for the same job one year earlier before I started working at Gear.com). I also went on a number of other bullshit interviews in case I didn't get the REI job. I put a lot of miles on my Jeep driving around town and up in the mountains, it was killer!!! But I was pissed cause I had all these modifications planned, like the CD deck, quick disconnects, BFG MT's, and 2" spacer lift. I had the money saved, but I was affraid to spend it since I didn't know how long I would be unemployed. Well, I had to get some serious beats, so I went ahead and got the CD player so I could hook up the amp and the sub I already had. Then I found out that one of my buddies was about to buy new tires for his truck, he liked mine, so I sold them to him (rather than wait and get stuck with the stock tires) and bought my BGF MT's. After about one month, I finally found someone to buy my car, and I even got more than what I owed on it!!! So, then I just had to buy some quick disconnects (Jeeps don't flex for shit with the sway bar connected). Anyway, after 2 months and 4 interviews, REI finally called and offered me the job!!! Well, it was about fuckin time!!! As freaked out as I was when I lost my job, it all worked out in the end. I had a great summer vacation with my Jeep and I got a job with more stability, better pay, and even closer to home..........no more hour long commute!!! So I say "Fuck Gear.com!!!" Na, I really miss some of my homies that used to work there. That job did have certain "dot.com" perks I really miss, such as ping pong and pool tables, a skateboard or mountain bike to ride to the printer......... |
