| K&N Air Filter - on the stock intake tube!! |
|
| Save $75!?!?! Why spend $75 for a Turbo City air tube when you have a perfectly good one that came with your Jeep?? Turbo City has a larger diameter tube, but how much difference is it really going to make?? This mod only gives you 5-10 more horsepower anyway. TC's tube is also made of metal, which stands up to more heat than the stock plastic tube. But once again, how hot is your engine going to get?? Unless you made your Jeep into a dragster, I don't think it will matter much. So if you want to save that 75 bones for something more worth while, get ready and grab a hacksaw!! So I emailed K&N tech reps to find out what filter would fit my stock tube and flow enough air. They recommended Part #RU3610 which flows at 702 CFM since my 4.0L engine only needs 422 CFM. Installation Loosen screw where the intake tube connects to the throttle body and remove the screws that hold the stock air box on. Unplug the breather hose and pull the entire assembly out. Measure 7 1/2" from the left of the breather. Now grab a hacksaw and slice away. Then use a file to smooth out the edges and make sure the inside of the tube is clean. You don't want any little bits of chewed up plastic getting sucked into your engine. Next, attach the K&N filter (Part #RU3610) to the tube. Reattach the tube to the throttle body and plug in the breather hose. BAM!! Now you're ready to rock!!!! This was a really easy mod to do, it only took 30 min. It was time to change my stock filter anyway, so I figured I wouldn't waste my money on a drop in K&N for the stock air box since I wanted to make room for an air compressor anyway. I didn't really notice any extra power, but it does sound pretty cool when you shift. The other great thing is that I'll never have to change it!!! |
