| A Bit More Flex My first impression of the lift was, "shit, I need bigger tires!!" The 31's looked tiny, definitely time for 32's. The back end bounced up and down when driving down the street like I had fuckin hydraulics. At first I thought it might be like that since I removed the rear sway bar. But Tom took one look at how bad it bounced and said it was all springs, the shocks were completely dead. He also said that it might be due to the fact that I mounted them with the can up, which could screw up the valving. But Billy at Truck Farm and a guy at Central 4WD both said it would be cool to mount them with the can up. So I called Trail Master and the guy there told me that you can't mount them with the can up, and if you did that the shocks would be stiffer than normal. Is everyone fuckin idiots or what? Now I really thought something was wrong with the shocks. But I figured that I would just try flipping them over and see if it helped. So I pulled out one of the shocks and held it with the can up while I compressed the piston. It was so soft I could have pushed it in with my pinky finger. Then I filpped the shock over and tried it the right way. It took a couple of compressions, but worked!!! The shocks had plenty of resistance. So I flipped the bar pin and the bushing sleeve around AGAIN and installed the shock the right way. After doing the same to the other side I went for a spin and it actually feels a bit stiffer than stock. However, I think that the shocks may have been damaged while they were upside down. I actually made a trail run and did quite a bit of flexin with the shocks upside down cause I could wait any longer to try the lift out. I still need to call Billy and see if he will replace them for me since he told me it would be ok to mount them upside down in the first place. Now I can't wait to hit the trail again!!! It sure is nice to sit a few inches higher!!! The TeraFlex 2t lift is pretty tall. My Jeep actually sits higher than CandyAss and he's got the 2 1/2" OME lift. |

| Vibrations and Sagging After installing the lift, I had some vibrations coming from the T-case when I would take off in 1st gear. The stick would shake, which wasn't bad. But when I would pull up my driveway (it's on a hill) I got more severe shaking throughout the whole Jeep. I think it had something to do with the extra torque on the driveline going up the hill. CandyAss had a set of T-case spacers from his OME kit that he was getting rid of cause he just got a Tom Woods SYE kit to correct for his bent output shaft (the result of dumping the clutch to do wheelies, JACKASS). So I put them on and my vibrations went away. Now I just need to paint them black!!! I knew the weight of my winch (100 lbs.) would cause the front end to sag almost 1". So I picked up a set of TeraFlex 0.75" spring spacers from Truck Farm when I ordered my lift. I would have liked 1" spacers, but they only make them in that one size and if you use a bigger spacer the warranty is void. The actual spacer is about 1 1/2", but you replace the stock rubber pad which is 3/4", you can figure out the math (if you can't click here). I got the set of two for $16.43, which was a steal since my local shop wanted $19.99 a each plus freight!!! Now my Jeep sits level, at least until I take the hard top off for the summer. But I don't think it will be enough to really notice. Besides, the back end will be saggin once I throw a cooler full of beer back there!!! |
