Here's what went on in February!!

Eeep! The concert! Here's the report -- Justin was totally stressed out and nervous before his solo, so Julia very kindly made him a card and made everyone sign it. As Justin was practicing his bows in front of the band, we told him that he needed to stick out his butt a little more. So then he did this funny little dance shaking his butt and it was funny! Then Mr. E told us a funny but pointless story about some composer guy, then it was time to go on!!! It's go time!!! The concerto was really great - Justin really BLASTED! (LOL barb) He got lots of flowers and hugs and handshakes. (Senior year...it's gonna be me!! Hehe) Then it was go time times 4530982. Percishetti. D was fired up and ready to go. >;) Acutally, after listening to the recording afterwards, my piccolo playing really didn't stick out! =D and my solos were good! I totally hit the B! I was like Yes!! and I rewound the tape and watched that part of the song 4 times! =D Go D! I could actually hear the other people playing!!! =D In all honesty, the trumpet/cornets weren't that bad. I just think that they could have practiced their solos much more!! Whenever I see I have a solo in music, I always practice it 10000000000000000 times! I even got to stand up after the Persichetti was over...I felt so important! And I stood up nice and tall like Mr. Vehar tought me to! =D Then it was time for the march. In my opinion, it was too fast and the woodwinds played too loudly. But I really didn't stick out! I was glad! I took most of the song down though, in fear of the stratospheric Abs....Eeep! All in all, it was a good concert....Next time we hit the stage...it will be the WE festival....!!! =)))))))))))))))

Today was orchestra rehearsal, so I was very very happy I didn't have to set up the room! =) But there was nothing to do, so I decided to practice. Mrs. Schwartz reccomended that I play one of the Bach Sonatas for All-State auditions. I agreed, but I really detest Bach...for many reasons. One, It has NO phrases at all. It's just one big long phrase with no room for breathing! Two, It has lots of broken chords that are very weird! I get dyslexic playing it! I respect Bach's idea that he wanted to be different...but it's just stupid - the etudes he writes. Three, If Bach's music was an encylopedia, it would have no pictures and a lot of little text. The music just looks so plain to me, so how can I put in breath marks or dynamic changes?!? It's so expressionless! He had no ideas whatsoever!! I bet half the time he wrote music, he was drunk!! And Mrs. Schwartz wonders why I don't practice my Bach Etudes like I should!!! Whoa, anyways back in the band room...Mr. E was very happy with the way the concert went, and suprisingly he was very excited that people were disgusted with the way they played. I guess in doing this, it will make us better? He tried to explain. Oh, and tonite was Nicole's suprise party....Her dad had organized this whole deal with a limo and going out to dinner with me, Barb, and Sarah N.! It was so fun, but I think me and Sarah were more excited than Nicole was! There was a little TV in the limo! And there was a CD player and pretty cups and pop for us, and Mr. Zibs (LOL) bought a camera and we took a bunch of pics!! It was so cool! We went to Kahunaville, and the food was so yummy!! And we got these little flamingo thingies that were so cute!!! Then we drove around downtown, and we saw Utopia!! (LMAO, Ed's VIP pass!) We got flowers from Nicole's dad, and we also got to shoo away these guys that were trying to get in our limo!! We told them to get lost!! Then we rolled down the window and laughed at all the people staring at us!! >;) Like I said, I had too much fun!!!

Not much is happening in band...Orchestra rehearsal again....which I am sadly not in. I want to be in it SOOO bad, and nobody understands! I sit there and groan about it all during WE and everyone's like, why?! But I don't know! I just think it would be fun! =D Lessons today and I'm glad I went, b/c now I've realized that I'm playing my audition song rhythms wrong! Eeep! But it's fixed now! =) Auditions are next week....And on Monday!! =O So I've only got the weekend to devoutly practice! Wish me luck!!

2-12-01
Dun Dun DUN!!! Auditions! I was a little freaked out about my scales because I couldn't play them very good before I had to audition! So anyways, when I got in the band room, Nicole was already auditioning...then Ashley had to go. Meanwhile, D shows off for concert bandies! ("Come on guys, I'm trying to show off here!" LOL) After Ashley, I had to audition. I was so busy practicing I didn't even hear Mr. E call me. Everyone else was like, DANIELLE!!! And I'm just like oh. So I calmly walk in, and I see this humongus brown afro wig (I thought it was Barb for a minute LOL) So I said, what the heck is THAT? A wig? And Mr. E's like, yep. Mr. V chimed in with "You'd look good in it" but I just gave him a strange look. After raising the stand so I wouldn't have to sit playing, I was invited to choose a major scale. I chose "D", explaining to them that D was for Danielle. (I didn't pick C, because then I knew I would have to play 3 octaves! Such a smart D!) They weren't too amused at my comments but that didn't stop me. I executed the D scale with accuracy and precision. Then Eicher made me play the B scale...which I figured they'd do. Luckily, this is one of D's favorite scales (I don't know why, it just is! =) So I had no problems! Then came minor. Intelligently, I chose A minor, and the C minor Mr. E chose for me wasn't troublesome either. After that, Mr. E looked at me and smiled and said "Adagio", implying the first part of the etude. Being wary of the evil smile he gave me, I thought about the tempo and started to play. With little to no difficulty, I performed it well. Without looking up, Eicher then said "Allegretto" and I played the second part on command. about 12 measures from the end, he stopped me and told me that it was enough. I shrugged and pulled out the sight reading. I fingered though it once, then, as I was about to go over it a second time, Mr. E announced that I'd have to start. Disgruntled at the fact that I didn't have enough time, I played the sightreading with questionable rhythms and a made up key signature which could be based on the mixolydian scale with inverted 7ths. In holding out the last G sharp, I glanced back at the key signature to realize I was supposed to be playing in the key of G. Mr. Eicher thanked me and told me to send anyone who was ready. With a lost and confused look, I agreed. After exiting, I stomped my foot and, at a moderate volume yelled "That was so DUMB!" I complained about that stupid sight reading for the rest of the day! When I was at my locker, V was like, "Good job on your audition Danielle!" And I'm like, "Yeah, whatever, mumble mumble..." And he says, "Okay....Bad job Danielle!" I silently responded with a peeved look. That stupid grumble grumble sight reading! It's making me mad just thinking about it!

Pajama Day! D likes to wear her PJs! I mean, what other day can I wear my band camp shirt to school and get away with it?!?! =D So anyways....I have a 71 in math! YES! I'm going up! =D Katey had her audition today, and there's only one thing I can tell you to sum it up. She walked out of the audition room and shot her hand gun at her head. Don't worry, it was just her hand...not a real gun for all you dumbasses out there. Today was just another bandish day...not much else occured besides my matchmaker sheet has me matched with Nick Ihle and Joe Rodgers as the top two. Don't worry, I'm not going to be like Giggles and go out with every trumpet player in WE...LOL But a lot of the people on my list were fellow bandies...I also got matched with Conor as my #1 from other grades as well as Pat and Tim Lambert. I love those matchmaker things, they're so much fun. Well, that's all for today.

2-14-01
It's V day!! No, not Vitello day, Valentine's Day!!! =) Before "hush day" started, I was hanging out in the band room and all of a sudden, Brad felt the urge to chuck Goodman's ruler behind the lockers in the sm. ensemble room. This drastically pissed him off and compelled him to say "You dumb....ASS!" It was hilarious the way he said it! You just had to be there, right Katey? LOL. The hush day began. Even though I ended up talking to guys thoughout the day, none of them really cared or wanted to advertise my name. (Read the fine print on the back, Katie!) So it was a fun day, since I got a gay Lance valentine! =) hehe.

2-16-01
Finally, it's the REAL friday. It seemed like Friday this whole week, and it's here! The day began with a very happy Mr. E, a french class with Mrs. Thome that didn't seem like it was shortened...(ugh), Gym, we were the only class what had to have gym today!, a bio test, pointless english class (as always), lunch, which seemed to have lasted an hour, a super no-Cohen math class (I love Mr. Richbart!), a sleepy Global class, and a happy chorus class (I'm accompanying!!!). After that was through, it was time for the pep rally!! This was almost the best pep rally ever. It was very frightening when Mr. E had on this mauve suit and a huge 'fro wig (the wig in his office during auditions) and Vitello dressed up as John Travolta and dancing badly! Seriously he can't dance AT ALL! I was very angry that I forgot my camera!!! =/ Oh well. I'll try to obtain pictures of them from my many sources! =) After school I had to quickly hop into the car and get my hair done and it was all pretty! Then pretty soon, it was time (TIME!) to get ready for the dance! I borrowed Katey's sister's junior prom dress, and it was all cool and pretty! It was "blurple!" (haha! Blue and Purple!) And the bow in the back! =D Katie picked me up and we drove to the dance in style (in a pickup!) But we got there insanely early and almost nobody was there! Besides Kellie...and OK beef! (hehe) But time passed and more and more of our frendsies came (including W!) So it was a really fun time, I think it was the best homecoming ever! It was so funny, I got Tiff all pissed b/c I was randomly twirling around near the back with Katey, and Abraham was just innocently passing by and I grabbed his hands and whisked him around! Tiff was like, Oh my God Danielle, I can't believe you did that! I just responded with, Hey, It's a free country! And then at the end of the dance, it was the last song, and I just had to dance with somebody, so I go up to Tiff and said, hey, watch this! And reluctantly Brian danced with me while Tiff was in shock. I think she just wants attention and uses her ex to get it. I didn't care, because Katie was dancing with Goodman behind us, so at least I wasn't that low! LOL. Then Katie and me went home and played the game "Trouble" while blasting *Nsync! It was such a fun day!

2-17-01
All I have to say for today is that I'M GOING TO THE *NSYNC CONCERT!!

2-18-01
Today was Katie's birthday party! And I have Nicole's party to go to now, so I will update this later! Or maybe not!

2-27-01
Sorry I haven't been able to update this sooner, I have to deal with my insane mother wanting to go online every night for 5 hours! So I've got to make this quick, she wants to go on again now! Today in WE, the trumpets played something un-styleistically (is that a word?) and Mr. E wanted to go over it, and while the trumpets were playing, we noticed a few lights went off, then a few more, then the whole band room went pitch black! (no windows!) In a few seconds, the back up light kicked on, and we all sat there in the dimness, and Mr. E said "Trumpets, if you hadn't screwed that up, this would have never happened!" And we all laugh. Sadly, the lights went back on after a short minute, and our hopes of having school cancelled were lost. Sixth period, Katey gave me her bubble solution that she brought to school for no reason, so I decided to blow bubbles at Vitello's head while he was teaching a lesson. He just looked at my strangely and shook his head and told me to leave him alone. V's so funny when you bother him! In the back room today, we were all trying to eat bubbles and catch them on our tongue. It tasted like nasty soap, but it sure was fun! Gotta run!!

Gosh. March already. This year is going by faster than last year!! But I'm sick of being a sophy...being stuck in the middle. Freshmen are cool, seniors are cool, but juniors and especcially sophomores suck. =P Anyways, Today was an extremely interesting day. Jazz was this morning, and I couldn't believe that I actually beat Eicher to rehearsal! (Usually I'm about a minute late!!) So everything's all set up, and were sitting there, and it's nice, and we're sitting there...and sitting there....and sitting there...Finally at 8:10 Aaron decides to lead the jazz ensemble, so we could actually play something. Then I kicked John off the piano b/c I wanted to play the easy song! It was funny! So rehearsal was going well, but we were all wondering where our director was! So Katey and I venture into the office (in the middle of a song) and call his house. His wife picked up and told us that he was sick. We told her that we missed him dearly (...riight...J/K) and that we were just wondering where he was. After we came out, everyone agreed that we needed to actually get some work done, so Aaron chose "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy", so the trumpets could play badly and not get yelled at. (just kidding!) Well this one guitar guy who never seems to wash his hair, I think his name is...I actually don't know who he is...he's the one that's not Ryan...anyways, I'm rambling, but he played the entire song with his little guitar amp thingie sounding like this nasty guitar, and Mrs. Rollo was like, ?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!!!! I couldn't even hear the saxophones playing, and that was like, a first!!! (brad) So we had a blast in JE. But that's just the beginning of our fun for the morning. Vitello had to conduct us, because he wanted to do the march (which eicher keeps spelling marsch for some reason). Carelessly, someone spills coffee, so someone told Vitello, and, he didn't care. So all throughout rehearsal, Chris Manacchio kept telling V about it randomly every 5 minutes! After the 422733th time, V burst out laughing. It was the dumbest thing. Then Chris said, "V, why are you always smiling?" and V goes "I dunno....it's band." hehe. After, Mr. V was all happy because he liked the piccolo part I played in that song, so it made me a happy bandie =) But then the rest of the day sucked because I had this horrible voice lab (read about it here) And to make matters worse, I think I bombed another math test. But Mike got kicked out of survivor tonight, and my best piano students come on Thursday, so the day was kinda like a backwards Oreo...The good parts were on the outside instead of the inside.......Ok, my analogies aren't as good as Mr. Vehars, but...well, I'm working on it. And I'm tired.

I saw the musical tonight and it was SOOOOOOOOO good! Laura K. was such a good queen! And Andy Lange is the perfect King! It was hilllllarious. Oh yes, and do not forget Tim Beef, Mark Beef and Sully Beef, they were all quite nice in their tights (the tight purple pants, Katie!! Or what about that old dude in the audience with the plaid pants and creme colored sweater!). Ashley and Mike were also amazing, and my little fresh-friends looked so adorable on stage...LOL. (Erin!) And long live the Royal Orchestra!!!! I loved their costumes!! Oh, and if you're reading this and wondering what musical it was, it was "Once Upon a Matress". (F-R-E-D: FRED!) Rebekah was also funny - "Yes!" LMAO. "Shyyyyyy!!!!!" hehe. OHHH!!! And Dave and Joe W. came back for a visit! It made me happy to see them. And I spotted the unfortunatly balding Tim Dickinson at the musical. I miss the old seniors!

3-03-01
Today Katey invited me over to her house to sleep over! It was me, Katie and Katey! And a multitude of Guinea pigs! LOL. We did lots of fun things like blowing bubbles out the window, back cookies, and put loads of makeup on D! =( But something very owieful also happened to me! Katey was making me try on this dress of hers for no reason at all, and she made me go in the closet. So these little evil present things got in the way of the door closing, so I moved them out of the way with my hand, and Katey was simultainiously trying to slam the door, so when I moved the presents, my middle finger got jammed in the door!!!!!! I screamed it hurt so much! I was so worried that I'd never be able to play flute again! =( It still hurts now, but it feels a little better. And since Katey didn't have any ice to put on it, she came back upstairs with a frozen stick of butter!! LOL! We later made chocolate chip cookies with it! (BCE cookie!) I wonder if I'll be able to play my piccolo effectively on Monday....
