A tour of....my closet!
"The Band Shrine"

Many of you are aware that I have amassed a large amount of band-related items in my closet. Well now, I have created an opportunity for everyone in internetland to see it's wonder! I have just gotten the pics in, so stop reading this and go look!!! =)

Part One of the Shrine!!

*To the far left, we see the blue poncho that I wore (and couldn't get on quickly) at the spectrum concert while performing Niagara Falls.
*Now, going to the back left, we see a blue folder that is bent under the other ones. That, ladies and gentlebandies is my original 8th grade band folder. I didn't feel like crapping up my good one until freshman and sophomore year.
*The next folder after that is "The Other Half Of Danielle Smith's Super Duper Amazing Extended Band Folder That Should Have Been Thrown Out But She Kept It Anyways!". Don't ask, for about 2 weeks in September of my FreshYear, I made an extended band folder so the music wouldn't crinkle on top. This part of the folder contains the 1st drafts of everything I've ever written.
*After that, is a one inch binder, which holds every (and I emphisize EVERY) Symphonic Band Memo, almost every WE Misc. Announcement, every concert write up and all my tuner sheets from my FreshYear. (I wasn't a member of WE when they handed out the first annoucement!!) Barb has it, and I'm jealous!!) On the outside, the cover has almost all of our bandish inside jokes from that year.
*The next thing is a manilla colored award I got for "Choral Acheivement" (which doesn't neccisarilly mean I have a good voice!!). It's not bandish, but it's musical; so there.
*Continuing down the back row, you see a pile of brochures for colleges. I sent away for most of these my FreshYear, because obsessing over colleges was cool that year. On top, the Fredonia brochure is visible! Wahoo! Also in this pile, at the bottom, are all my tuner sheets from this year. (About twice as many as last year. Damn Picc!)
*Next, is an obvious pile of WE Misc. Announcements. It pisses me off that not all of them were orange....there was one pink one and two white ones! Grr! Whenever I found a SB Memo lying around the band room, I picked it up to randomly put in the shrine.
*Directly above the Misc. Announcements is a news paper ad, which is an inside joke with my Euph-homie John. It is one of the many random articles we ripped out of ArtVoice. He told me to cherish this one forever, and as you see, I am. LOL.
*The last pile of colorful papers is as many programs I remembered to save. My earliest is a Holiday Pops Concert from 7th grade. The most recent is the spectrum concert. I have other REALLY old programs, but I don't want to ruin them...they stay with my school stuff in the attic room (aka. the future room, to my family and friends who have been to my house)
*Moving on to the front...back on the left, almost hidden by the poncho is a white envelope. This is some band stationary that I conveiniently stole. My FreshYear, when we went to W. Seneca, somebandies kinda trashed the room we were in, and when Mr. E found out, he was "not a happy man"! He told anyone who did anything to write a note of apology to them. Inconspicuously, I took one, for no reason! And I still have it.
*Next item is another envelope, this one reads, "Band in the News (1999-2003)". (That was written on the envelope with the famous "Band Crayon"!) This bulging envelope contains any and all Bee articles on anything bandish or choralish. It also has the other articles me and John ripped out it in.
*Next, is a pretty card I got from Jen Lougen for helping out at ECMEA auditions.
*After that is a pile of bandish pics from throughout the years, the pic of the inside of my flute being on top. There's ones of marching band, the WE performing, V, etc...
*This next one I am proud of. It is a band keychain from 1999-2000 that I got at the 2000 banquet for best section (SB flutes, read the plaque and weep!) >;) I have yet to even take it out of the plastic bag! I don't want it to get ruined!
*Continuing to the right, we see a yellow....thing. It is a piece of wrapping paper-like shiney thing, which Barb ripped off a bulletin board at band camp. I thought it was pretty b/c I like shiney things, so I kept it. =)
*The last thing is a pile of tickets from the Jazz Ensemble Concert this year. Emily and I had to collect them at the door, and we had a race to see who amassed more tickets. I forgot who won, but I wanted to keep all of them anyways! And the red ones aren't red....they're "CHERRY"...LOL...

Part Two of the Shrine!!

*In this pic, you can also see a few of the items explained in the last section. Again, starting on the left in the back, you can see some boxes. These aren't any old boxes....My flute stand (which I use at church) and my evil "kick *$#@" (LOL last year's Sympho-bandies!) piccolo (YP-62).
*Next are some more boxes, these ones consisting of my tuner's box (the Yamaha tuner), and my metronome's box (Dr. Beat 88!!!!). And if you're wondering what the the little black thing on top of the boxes is, it's a little thingey that goes with my piccolo...it's some sort of cap for the body joint.
*The next pile of papers is very special. It is photocopied music (!) of songs that I like begining with 6th grade. The first one is my audition song for seating in 6th grade!! (I became section leader!) =D I'm not sure what the most recent one is, I think it's Yiddish Dances....I have yet to add my Niagara falls to this pile. I play these songs every once in a while.
*Above that music, is a band pamphlet that we given out to people who bought subs when we sold them my FreshYear. Sneakily, I kept one! It just says stuff about our bands (what's on the home page of this web site) and when last year's concerts were.
*The next thing is another stack of papers on the extreme right...it is a collection of random notices concerning band, like GBYO auditions and such. It also has all my ECMEA and NYSSMA solo evaluation forms.
*Above that, is my beloved paper plate award, given to me by Mr. V on the last day of SB. It reads: LOL Danielle Smith (web master) Most Likely To Always Be a Bandie. (on the side) I love turtlenecks". The LOL is for the time when I was camly exiting the band room and Mr. E's like, Danielle, what does LOL mean? And I'm like laughing out loud. And he replies with "Nice Web Page". That's when he found last year's primitive uncensored web page...which declared Vitello looked homosexual in a gray turtle neck he wore one day. (which explains the "I love turtlenecks" part.)
*Back over on the left, in front, is a folder which contains most of my ECMEA solos and the info I received at the festivals I attended. Not visible on top of it is the information on this year's ECMEA audition that I needed as a roomie for the judicator.
*On top of that folder is the ECMEA lanyard which I got as a "souvenier" from EC 2001. It squeaks when you twist it!! (hehe John)
*Next you see the ever famous "Band Crayon"....well, half of it. The other half of this "Purple Mountain's Majesty" crayon is glued to the inside of my band folder! John gave it to me as appeasement for not having a sticker. Which is why I glued it to my folder, along with my other EC stickers.
*Next is my name tag from when I helped out at ECMEA auditions, which says my name and "Wind Ensemble" on it...you can't really see it well in the picture.
*And the last thing is a little army man (katey gave it to me for no reason) which was in my locker this year. He has nothing to do with bandishness, I just needed something to prop up Mr. C, the disgruntled horned alien! He is one of the many ArtVoice articles previously mentioned. =)

And a special supplement to the Band Shrine...Two points to any bandie who can recognize what this is a picture of! HEHE! (This pic wasn't supposed to turn out this bad, though!)
