Age: 16
Hair: black, waist-length. She wears her hair in a high ponytail when fighting.
Eyes: magenta/reddish brown in the manga, hazel brown in the anime. Someone told me that Sango's eyes are green in colour art in the manga, but I haven't found a single piece of evidence to support this.
Appearance: Sango is lithe, but very strong for a woman. Her casual clothes are straw sandals, a white yukata patterned with magenta, and a green apron that she wears over the yukata for freedom of movement without being indecent. She also carries a blue furoshiki (carrying cloth) with her personal belongings. Her taijiya battle gear includes a black catsuit and black boots. Her armour consists of shoulder, elbow, knee, shin and forearm guards made of youkai hide and bone (presumably) and a gas mask. She wears purple eyeshadow.
Appellations: Sango, Sango-chan, aneue, taijiya(-san)
Meaning of Name: "Sango" means "coral".
Quote: "Is it necessary to keep stroking my leg while you talk."
Impressions: At first sight, Sango is somewhat introverted and more than a little shy. There is a sorrow about her at all times, due to the tragic destruction of her village. She is very tenacious and fierce when something she holds dear is at stake, and she can fight as well as any male warrior (she is said to be the best fighter of her village). She is easily baffled when things get emotional, and worries a lot about her companions, but is also a quite down-to-earth, no-nonsense person. She has the potential to rather sacrifice herself than let those she loves come to harm, and considers her few friends very special and precious.

History (spoilers!): Sango is the daughter of the chief (okashira) of the youkai taijiya (demon exterminator) village. Her people made a living by hunting lesser youkai like centipedes and spiders that attacked villages and people. They crafted their armour and weapons from the bones, shells and hides of the youkai they slew. Sango's home village was also the birthplace of the Shikon no Tama. Sango has a younger brother named Kohaku, who was a warrior-in-training.
Sango's father took her and Kohaku with him when he was commissioned by the lord of a nearby castle to destroy a spider youkai. The taijiya readily defeated the youkai, but they had been deceived. Disguised as the young master of the castle, the youkai Naraku took control of Kohaku, who then, spellbound, slaughtered his father and comrades and gravely injured Sango, who was buried with the rest of the taijiya. Meanwhile, a host of youkai attacked their home village and completely wrecked it, killing the inhabitants. Sango, presumed dead, however dug herself up from her own grave and was taken into the care of the young master. Through a scheme of Naraku's she was lured into believing that Inuyasha had led the youkai who had destroyed her village, and set out to avenge her people. After meeting Inuyasha and his companions and doing battle with the hanyou she quickly learned the truth, however, that Naraku had been behind the carnage at her village. She then joined forces with the group in order to gain her revenge -- and find her brother, who is in Naraku's clutches. She pretty much lost her whole family and village due to Naraku. If that's not enough, she found out that her brother is still alive and is under the control of Naraku. No matter what happened, she couldn't bring herself to kill her brother and is willing to risk everything to save him. Her relationship with Miroku is pretty funny. At first she didn't like him because he keeps on touching her. Later, she begins to develop feeling for him and is very jealous with he flirts with other girls.
Weapons & Attacks: As a warrior trained to combat youkai, Sango has a wide variety of offensive abilities. She uses various sorts of poisonous smokes and other preparations that are harmful to youkai -- that's why she wears a gas mask, to protect herself. She has, on one occasion, wielded a weighed chain in battle, and is skilled with her short sword as well. Sometimes she fights astride Kirara, her cat demon companion. According to observations from the anime, Sango's fighting style is quite acrobatic. The Hiraikotsu (literally, "come flying skill", or "flying bone"): The Hiraikotsu is Sango's primary weapon, a six-foot-long boomerang made of youkai bone. She has been seen both throwing it with great accuracy and using it as a bludgeon or then for defence, like a shield, when she uses her sword.
Things of Note: Due to her training, Sango is able to detect youki and jaki (evil aura) to some extent, but her senses probably are not as keen as Kagome's or Miroku's.
Love Life: Sango obviously has a thing for Miroku, but she is far too shy to do anything about it, and any promising moments have been ruined when he ends up groping her. However, she is very quick to whap him whenever she catches him flirting with a girl.
