Estar - to be

Estar is used to indicate location (where you are).

Estar is used to indicate a temporary state of being.

This basically means being tired, sick, happy, sad, etc.

*You are not sick, tired, happy, sad all of the time so it

is temporary.

Yo estoy - I am

Tú estás - You (friendly/familiar you) are

Ud está - You (formal/respectful) are

Él está - He is

Ella está - She is

Nosotros estamos - We are (masculine we)

Nosotras estamos - We are (feminine we)

Uds están - You all are

Ellos están - They are (masculine they)

Ellas están - They are (feminine they)

Location-Lugar(Place)

Yo estoy en la escuela. I am in school.

Yo estoy en el avión. I am on the plane.

Ella está en la playa. She is at the beach.

Temporary state of being

Yo estoy triste. I am sad.

Yo estoy cansado/a. I am tired.

*Yo estoy cansado-for a guy

*Yo estoy cansada-for a girl

Yo estoy ocupado. I am busy.

Yo estoy enferma. I am sick.
