Adjetivos-Adjectives

In Spanish adjectives must agree with the nouns that they modify.

(examples of adjectives in Spanish)

rojo-masculine - red(masculine)

roja-feminine - red(feminine)

azul - blue

*there is only one word for blue whether the noun is feminine or masculine

amarillo/amarilla - yellow

la casa - the house (feminine noun)

el libro - the book (masculine noun)

(acuerdo de los nombres y los adjetivos)

la casa roja - the red house

*roja is used because casa is feminine and has a la

*Don't assume that a noun is masculine or feminine because of the ending!!

You need to learn whether the noun is masculine or feminine!!

el mapa rojo - the red map

*rojo is used because mapa is masculine

*some masculine nouns have an a at the end

(el problema-masculine noun with an a at the end)

*some feminine nouns have an o at the end

(la radio-feminine noun with an o at the end)

 

List of colors (adjectives)

*Rojo/roja is the same as rojo/roja - it is just easier to write this way

rojo/a - red

anaranjado/a - orange

amarillo/a - yellow

verde - green

*1 form for both feminine and masculine

azul - blue

*1 form for both feminine and masculine

morado/a - purple

marrón - brown

*1 form for both feminine and masculine

negro/a - black

gris - gray

*1 form for both feminine and masculine

rosado/a - pink

An adjective -------------------describes or modifies a noun.

*Basically an adjective distinguishes one noun from another

by describing it or telling how it is different from another noun.

Example: noun-house

adjective-blue

the house------which house are you talking about

vs.

the blue house-----the house that is blue
