We have had Bad Actions by City Attorney MULLANEY,
School Supt. Fryer and School Board Chair WILKINSON. Now other board members are considering keeping Fryer. This man cost the taxpayers $1/2 million for new idle school buses, maybe this $1/2 million should be taken out of his salary. Rick Mullaney still wants the London bus contractors. NO! NO! NO! |

PLAYERS:
Susan Wilkinson is the Chair of the Duval County School Board. She worked very closely with School Supt. Fryer and City Attorney Rick Mullaney to bring London school bus contractors to Duval County. She signed contracts with London based school bus contractors. This was over the objections of every other School Board Members. All other School Board members voted to redo the bid process. Why? Businessmen Art Shad/Lewis Siplin were on the School Bus Contractor Bid Evaluation Committee. These businessmen were referenced in the Folio Weekly May 8, 2001 as being very unhappy. Why? They are unhappy about the bid process approved by Mullaney / Wilkinson / Fryer. LONDON CONTRACTORS First Student-Ryder (First Group) are listed on the London England Stock Exchange. Also listed are Laidlaw, Atlantic Express and Durham. LOW BALL BIDS? These London bus companies submitted very low bids....bids were so low that some of the contractors dropped out (could not pay drivers enough and properly maintain buses?). Laidlaw, Atlantic Express and Durham have already dropped out. In other communities, First Student-Ryder bus and other London bus contractor service has been terrible and/or taxes have increased dramatically, eg. St. Louis MO, Randolph-Tunbridge VT, Levittown PN-Briston Township PN Low ball bids do not have enough money to retain drivers and do proper maintenance. The only way to remove this company in other communities has been for the county to buy school buses by changing the law to increase property taxes. In other communities, property taxes have been raised by referendum votes pushed by parents and other voters !!!!!!!! We need to find common sense solutions to prevent tax increases....we already had locally owned school buses at the lowest cost per student mile in Florida!!!!! See other pages for additional unnecessary school board costs such as $6 million for America's Choice; the highest county cost in the U.S. CONTACT!!!!! Call---write---E-Mail School Board Members and tell them what you think about property taxes going up 21% in other communities: Board Members who properly voted to throw out and redo the Bid Process (on a second vote): Martha Barrett 390-2371 [email protected], Kris Barns 399-5899 [email protected], Lynda Sparks 390-2239 [email protected], Gwen Gibson 356-5700 [email protected], Jimmy Johnson 924-3440 [email protected], Cindy Rounds 390-2372 [email protected] 1701 Prudential Drive Jacksonville FL 32207 General Fax Number 390-2237 Wilkinson voted for and signed contracts for London bus companies.
