Basic Requirements (May 2006)

Clothing and Equipment Requirements for The Pirate Brethren of North West Florida, also known as Ye Pirates of Massacre Island-

1. All materials will be documented to the Buccaneer era or "Golden Age of Piracy" using primary sources such as period books, drawings, estate inventories, artifacts, patterns, contracts, etc. 

2. Materials will be made from natural materials such as linen, wool, cotton, silk, etc. Garments or other materials using synthetic fabrics are not permitted.

3. Weapons, camp gear, and accoutrements will be correct for the periods portrayed (buccaneer or GAOP pirate) and fully functional (meaning no Denix "replicas"). All members are required to document their clothing and equipment.

4. Items may be hand sewn, machine sewn, or purchased from approved sutlers. At no time will cross hatching on clothing be visible.

5. Clothing differs for officers and ordinary seamen. Contact the Captain and Quartermaster for more details regarding your desired persona.  These positions include but are not limited to Surgeon, Cook, Gunner's Mate, Ship's Carpenter, Boatswain, Navigator, etc.

6. Prospective members will be familiar with basic period skills, vocabulary, and his duties as outlined in
The Seaman's Vade Mecum and the Articles.

7. Non-period items (watches, modern spectacles, cell phones, first aid kit, etc) will be kept out of view at all times in cloth sacks, chests, etc.

8.Members must obtain basic items before participating in activities. These consist of-
a. Headgear
b. Shirt (and vest if required)
c. Pantaloons, slops, or breeches (French fly)
d. Footwear (and stockings, if required)
e. Period style spectacles, if required
f. A weapon, being either a knife, dirk, axe, sword, cutlass, bayonet, pistol, musket, blunderbuss, or cannon.

9. Minimum age for participation is 18 years of age. However, adult members may have a male relative 11 years of age or older portray powder monkeys or ship's boys (limited to two members). 

10. Specific requirements are outlined in "The Articles of the Pirate Brethren of North West Florida".
