This  innovative six-part teaching method combines the joys of creating with the joys of
learning, while encouraging each student to discover his or her own creative style.

Lessons are introduced with art-historical orientations which include vocabulary,
brainstorming, and demonstrations of techniques and materials.
Students discover the possibilities of different creative decisions and are
encouraged to be creative and take artistic risks.
They learn how to discuss art through peer to peer support, dialogue and public exhibitions.
This six-part method offers consistency in the learning
process and results in confident, creative children.

Each class offers art-historical context gives students an awareness
of artistic tradition while offering inspiration that adds meaning to their own work.
Art vocabulary reinforces the proper art terms, brainstorming gives the students
an opportunity to learn to use the new vocabulary while discussing thier ideas
and projects.  Demonstrations of  materials and some suggested
techniques motivate students to experiment with thier own ideas during
the hands on artmaking part of the lesson.

Students spend the majority of each class making art and exploring the possibilities
of their own creative choices.  Lessons end with students "appreciating" each others work
using positive phrases like "I see..." and "I notice...".  They share observations about their
own work and the work of others in their group with consideration and respect.  This builds
students' confidence in expressing themselves verbally and communicating in a positive
way.  Every student  will have the opportunity and be encouraged to exhibit a work of
art at a public venue.  These are very meaningful events for students, giving them
lasting confidence in their abilities.
