Still-life lessons teach students
observational drawing skills,
color mixing and blending and
how to identify and use warm
and cool colors.  Students learn
about and are inspired by the
works of many famous artists
including Georgia O'Keefe. 
Still life offers the opportunity
to learn about composition,
lighting and explore and
experiment with many mediums.
Mask-making for Children and Teens encourages students to
create a make-believe character to express emotions or thoughts.
Students learn about 3-dimensional construction, they will also
study and be inspired by masks of different cultures including
Native Americans and tribal cultures of Africa
Self-Portrait lessons allow students
of all ages to study their own faces,
recognize what makes them unique
and learn how to express a mood or
feeling in a portrait.  It also offers
the opportunity to study features,
values, proportions and other
important factors in producing a
good portrait while learning to use
different mediums.  Students are
introduced to self-portraits of famous
artists like well known Frida Kahlo
who expressed intense emotions
into her self-portraits. A self-portrait
can be an exact likeness or an
abstract whirl of thoughts and
feelings.  It has the potential to create
a myth, tell a story, suggest sadness
or jubilation.  A self-portrait is a
persons version of themself.
Landscape lessons teach students of all
ages to use placement, overlapping, size
and porportion of shapes to create a sense
of space while considering their own
environment.  Students are exposed to
landscapes of famous artists including
David Barbero  who utilizes simplified
shapes and vibrant colors in his paintings
of the southwest. 
Students are encouraged to experiment with
mediums and develope thier own styles
while learning some basic priciples of art.
Abstract lessons allow students
to explore shape, line and color
without predetermined expectations.
Students learn that art equals choice
and that all answers are "correct."
Without the fear of making a mistake,
students are egar to learn, experiment
and make independent, creative choices.
Mask-making offers opportunities to
work with numerous materials, both
traditional art materials and creative
recycled and found items.  This project
offers the students a chance to be
original, creative and expressive
while learning a vast number of basic
art principles.
