| When will Jesus come? Has he already come? In what manner will Jesus come? What will happen to the Earth and its inhabitants when Jesus comes? When are the dead resurrected? How can we avoid being deceived? The following texts reveal what the Bible (King James version) explicitly states regarding the manner of Christ's literal, visible, audible and calamitous second coming. TESTIMONY OF OLD TESTAMENT PROPHETS 1. A Psalm of Asaph Psalms 50:3-5 -- "Our God shall come, and shall not keep silence; a fire shall devour before him, and it shall be very tempestuous round about him. He shall call to the heavens from above, and to the earth, that he may judge his people. Gather my saints together unto me; those that have made a covenant with me by sacrifice." 2. Visions of Daniel Daniel 7:13-14 -- "I saw in the night visions, and behold, one like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of days, and they brought him near before him. And there was given him dominion, and |

| glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve him: his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed." Daniel 12:1-2 -- "And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book. And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt." TESTIMONY OF CHRIST 1. When Jesus rebuked his accusers after healing a lame man on the Sabbath John 5:28-29 -- "Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation." (NOTE: "his voice" refers to that of the "Son of man," or Jesus; see verse 27) 2. When Jesus first announced his death and resurrection Matthew 16:27 -- "For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works." Mark 8:38 -- "Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels." Luke 9:26 -- "For whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words, of him shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he shall come in his own glory, and in his Father's, and of the holy angels." 3. When Jesus spoke of heaven and promised to return again John 14:2-3 -- "In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also." 4. When Jesus spoke of the signs of the end and his return Matthew 24:23-24 -- "Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not. For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect." Matthew 24:26-27 -- "Wherefore if they shall say unto you, Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth: behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not. For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be." [NOTE: This is the only such text using the word "secret"--pointing out that His coming will not be secret, contrary to popular belief] Luke 17:23-24 -- "And they shall say to you, See here; or, see there: go not after them, nor follow them. For as the lightning that lighteneth out of the one part under heaven, shineth unto the other part under heaven; so shall also the Son of man be in his day." Matthew 24:30-31 -- "And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other." Mark 13:26-27 -- "And then shall they see the Son of man coming in the clouds with great power and glory. And then shall he send his angels, and shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from the uttermost part of the earth to the uttermost part of heaven." Luke 21:27 -- "And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory." Matthew 24:44 -- "Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh." 5. When Jesus told the parable of the ten virgins Matthew 25:13 -- "Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh." 6. After Jesus told the parable of the talents Matthew 25:31 -- "When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of glory." 7. When Jesus was being tried by Caiaphas, the high priest Matthew 26:64 -- "Jesus saith unto him [Caiaphas, the high priest], Thou hast said: nevertheless I say unto you, Hereafter shall ye see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven." Mark 14:62 -- "And Jesus said [to Caiaphas, the high priest], I am: and ye shall see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven." (NOTE: see Revelation 1:7) Luke 22:69 -- "Hereafter shall the Son of man sit on the right hand of the power of God." 8. When Jesus gave his revelations to John Revelation 16:15 -- "Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame." Revelation 22:7 -- "Behold, I come quickly: blessed is he that keepeth the sayings of the prophecy of this book." Revelation 22:12 -- "And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be." Revelation 22:20 -- "He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus." TESTIMONY OF THE APOSTLES 1. Testimony of Luke after witnessing Christ ascend to heaven Acts 1:9-11 -- "And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight. And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel; Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven." (NOTE: Jesus ascended visibly in a cloud, in bodily form; did everybody see him go?) 2. Testimony of Paul in his epistles to the churches 1 Corinthians 15:51-52 -- "Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed." 1 Thessalonians 4:15-17 -- "For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God; and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord." (NOTE: will Jesus arrive on the ground?) 1 Thessalonians 5:2-3 -- "For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape." [NOTE: this text points out that "the day of the Lord" will come as a thief in the night, when unexpected, not his actual coming as popularly believed] 2 Thessalonians 1:7 -- "And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels." 2 Thessalonians 2:8 -- "And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming: even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved." (NOTE: the "Wicked" one refers to the "man of sin... Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God"; see verses 3 and 4) Hebrews 9:28 -- "So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation." 3. Testimony of Jude Jude 14-15 -- "And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints, To execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed, and all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against thim." (NOTE: the "saints" in this verse apparently refer to the angels; see Matthew 16:27, 24:31, 25:31; Mark 8:38, 13:27; Luke 9:26; 2 Thessalonians 1:7) 4. Testimony of John after receiving revelations from Jesus Revelation 1:7 -- "Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, amen." (NOTE: "they also which pierced him" refers to the testimony of Jesus when being tried by Caiaphas, the high priest; see Matthew 26:64 and Mark 14:62.) Revelation 6:14-17 -- "And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places. And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains; And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb: For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?" (NOTE: the face of Jesus, who is sitting on the throne, is apparently visible) Revelation 14:14 -- "And I looked, and behold a white cloud, and upon the cloud one sat like unto the Son of man, having on his head a golden crown, and in his hand a sharp sickle. And another angel came out of the temple, crying with a loud voice to him that sat on the cloud, Thrust in thy sickle, and reap: for the time is come for thee to reap; for the harvest of the earth is ripe. And he that sat on the cloud thrust in his sickle on the earth; and the earth was reaped." Revelation 16:17-21 -- "And the seventh angel poured out his vial into the air; and there came a great voice out of the temple of heaven, from the throne, saying, It is done. And there were voices, and thunders, and lightnings; and there was a great earthquake, such as was not since men were upon the earth, so mighty an earthquake, and so great. And the great city was divided into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell: and great Babylon came in remembrance before God, to give unto her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of his wrath. And every island fled away, and the mountains were not found. And there fell upon men a great hail out of heaven, every stone about the weight of a talent: and men blasphemed God because of the plague of the hail; for the plague thereof was exceeding great." |
