FLOYD HAYES
FAMILY MATTERS
Brett with a snake (Leptophis ahaetulla) captured in our backyard on 2 September 2001. The snake was feeding on a fledgling Palm Tanager (Thraupis palmarum), which was released. This is a rear-fanged snake (see close-up below)  whose mildly toxic venom causes a stinging sensation and once killed a cat.

BRETT WITH REPTILES
Since July 2001, Brett has become crazy about reptiles and amphibians, especially snakes. Steve Irwin, the "Crocodile Hunter," has been his primary source of inspiration. Since July 2001, Brett has captured 30+ snakes. His fifth was a venomous ferdelance (Bothrops asper) captured with a pair of snake tongs.
Brett's first venomous snake captured: a Ferdelance (Bothrops asper) at Las Lapas Trace, Trinidad, 9 September 2001.
