Fall has begun. The leaves started turning after Labor Day
here in New England. Meowmie has noticed that her spring
planted pansies have died back. She is ready to plant new
ones this month. The local nurseries and Meowmie's favorite
place-Home Depot, will be offering Icicle Pansies for sale.
October is a perfect month in New England to plant new perennials,
shrubs and of course-spring bulbs!
This is a patch of icicle pansies. Yes! They bloom in the snow!
Icicle Pansies
Icicle pansies can give you a beautiful garden in October and
March. They are easy to grow. They are guaranteed to grow in
the following spring when planted in late summer or early fall.
Plant them in locations with 6 to 12 hours of sunlight per day.
Plant them 6 to 8 inches apart. They grow 6 to 8 inches tall.
Plant in fertile, well-drained soil. Water and apply all-purpose
fertilizer at planting time. Water as needed during the fall and
spring. Avoid wind-swept locations. Do not plant where rock salt
will be used. Plants will bloom until snow covers them. They
will be dormant in the winter, but will bloom again in warmer
spring temperatures. Replace them in late spring or early
summer with annuals. Then in October, plant them again!
Icilcle pansies come in many colors. Kitties can pick what
colored pansy garden they wish.
A kitty can plant a Halloween Garden by mixing yellow and
orange pansies. Adding a white pansy to this mix will give
you a Sunshine Garden.
My Meowmie tends to pick out blue and pale pink pansies for
planting. This is a soothing Blues Garden. She picks out
clear blue and violet faced pansies.
Kitties can look to fill in areas between daffodils and tulips
in the spring with pansies.
Your activity for October is to mew about what you like to plant
in your Fall Garden. You can also plant in our former activity gardens.
Remember to have fun. Mew to me, Lloyd by using the mail button at the
bottom of the page. Happy Fall planting!
