GLUTTONY
Gluttony is merely eating more than you need to survive, which happens at every picnic, bazzar, carnival, family get-togethers, and most major holidays. We have a wonderful set of senses, taste is one of them and i suggest it be used as you please. If this leads to obesity and you are unhappy with the way you look, pride will show his faithful face again and give you the will to regain a look wich you would recover too.
"There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously (ate great portions) every day: And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores, And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich mans table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores. And it came to pass that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abrahams bosom: the rich man also died and was buried; And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. And he cried and said, father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue, for I am tormented in this flame. But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime recievedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented. And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they that would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence. Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my fathers house: For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come to this place of torment. Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them. And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent. And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead." Luke 16:19-31
Gluttony is excessive eating or drinking. It is wrong to eat and drink more than is necessary. I have to admit that I have a problem with eating, personally (though it doesnt show, physically). It is a very selfish thing to do. Many people (especially Americans) eat much, much more than they need while there are those who have very little or none. It is not necessarily horrible to have a picnic. But if you have plenty and a man who is hungry and has none asks for charity, who are you to turn him away? You say, but this man has done nothing to earn it! This man, I do not know! This man is lower than I, for I have worked for my wages and he has toiled not for me! Shame on you. Let me tell you a story of a girl I met late in the year 2002. She was very wealthy and had all that she needed, though was never satisfied, never content. Her house is filled with meaningless toys and materials, though most of them go unused. She had abundances of food, whereas most of it would go to spoil before it could be consumed. However, when it came to charity. She had none. When a man was hungry and sat on the street starved, her eye was blind. When he who was hungry cried out for scraps, her ear grew deaf and his pleas became mute. These men continued in hunger, their stomachs touching one side to another even when she had much to spare. This reminds me of a situation that happened a long time ago. Jesus spoke of it. ------>
