The Nerd Within
Who says I can't be right and left-minded?
Back to the Den!
To the Art!
I'm hoping to have an FAQ on my art and my path as an Environmental Scientist, but for now a brief run down will do.  Feel free to e-mail me any questions for an FAQ ^_^
Why Environmental Science?
Because I love the Earth!  I find the world of nature fascinating, and I've always felt much more at home in the middle of the woods than in the middle of a city.  I enjoy studying subjects ranging from Ecology to Organix Chemistry, and hopefully all of these studying will someday claim me a job in some sort of conservation program.  There's nothing I'd rather do more than professionally help clean up the Earth and care for the less fortunate animals!
Why Ornithology?
Maybe it's because they have feathers, or because they are living dinosaurs.  Or maybe it's just because they're so personable, varied, and down-right gorgeous (even the "drab" turkey is breath-taking when displaying in leks!)  Birds were my first love in the animal kingdom, and I was lucky enough to grow up with a bunch of parakeets and a father who constantly took me birdwatching and hiking whilst growing up.  Also, birds need the most help when it comes to endangered species protection, for they are so fragile and there are so many of them on the ESA list.  I'm sure there's bias slipping through there, but there's a lot of truth that statement!
Why Art?
With my love for art and my minor in a Humanity's subject, I'm pretty well balanced for a nerd, aren't I? ^_~  I consider Philosophy an art along with the visual artwork you see in the Den.  On visual art, I guess I've always had a knack for it.  I grew up doing artwork constantly with my sister, and not one art class to date!  Nothing outside the classes I needed to take in order to graduate high school at least.  As for Philosophy, the human mind and spirit in general has always fascinated me.  Examining what it means to be human and where subjects such as ethics, metaphysics and epistemology fall into that identity has always come naturally to me, so Philosophy seemed like a suitable minor field.  That, and I was suckered into it by the FPC Philosophy department..:B
