Pearl Jam
Formed - 1990

Pearl Jam was formed after the members of Mother Love Bone and Matt Cameron of Soundgarden, recorded the tribute Album - Temple of the Dog. It was Stone Gossard (geetarist!) and Jeff Ament (bassist) who assembled the new band, inviting Mike McCready (lead geetarist) and Matt Cameron (drums) who they had worked with perviously, to record a demo for their new band, at that time named 'Mookie Blaylock', after an NBA player. A 25 year old surfer from San Diego, Eddie Vedder (then of the band Bad Radio) was given the demo to listen to. He overdubbed vocals and original lyrics to the demo and was invited to join the band soon after. Matt Cameron left the band soon after and was replaced with Dave Krusen who completed the band.

The band re-named themselves Pearl Jam, after Eddie Vedder had been experimenting with words one day and recorded their debut album Ten. Ten did not begin selling significant numbers until the end of 1992, thanks to the success of Nirvana (*cough CRAP! cough*) Ten contains many well structured songs such as 'Alive' 'Jeremy' and 'Evenflow' and are what has led to the large fan base Pearl Jam have today. Drumer Dave Krusen left the band shortly after Ten was released and was replaced with Dave Abruezze.

In 1992, Eddie Vedder, Stone Gossard and Mike McCready appeared in the film 'Singles' which was set in Seattle (I still haven't found a copy of it! GRRR!!) the songs () and () are on the soundtrack for the film. The band released their second album Vs in 1993, for which they refused to succumb to the music industry's conventions, by not making videos or releasing any singles from Vs. Still, without this media exposure, the album was another platinum success in America for the band.

After Vs was completed the band fired Dave Abbruzzese (tis a sad, sad life for drummers! Stay tuned to find out if anymore drummers go walkies...!!) and in late 1994, their third album Vitalogy was released/ At first Vitalogy was only available on limited vinyl, when it was released on CD, it quickly went platinum. In late 1996 the fourth album No Code was released. No Code was an experimental CD and was not welcomed by a large proportion of their fan baes. No Code did not do so well and quickly slipped down in the charts.

1998 saw the release of the fifth album Yield and the live album - Live on two legs. At the end og 1998 drummer Jack Irons (where the hell did he come from?!) was replaced with Matt Cameron (back again!!) who had originally been in the line up of Pearl Jam. In 1999, Pearl Jam scored a pop hit with the oldie 'Last Kiss' by J.Frank.Wilson. The song became the band's highest charting song and went gold.

Pearl Jam returned to the music scene with their latest album Binaural in 2000 and live, doulble CDs from each city they played at during their tour in 2000. Most recently, Pearl Jam have complete their new album (2002) Riot Act which will be released on November 11th ( i think) and its first single will be 'I am mine', something tells me that this album is going to be HOT!

My favourite albums are Ten and Vs, I prefer the earlier material but the later stuff is also good. Alive is my favourite song, Eddie Vedder has a really amazing voice, so if you haven't heard the song - CHECK IT OUT!!!!
