Phoenix
In the corner, she is drawing,
a half open flower,
Her sketches pile up,
hour after hour,
She will be up all night,
drinking coffee with cream,
dreaming of art shows,
and New York's color scheme,
I see this city,
burning in your eyes,
Out of the ashes,
phoenix rise,
She lost her father and her safety,
when she was just a girl,
Callous mother figure,
welcome to an ashen world,
Cinderella, working so long,
All the hardships that you know,
Pick up that abandoned brush,
and paint yourself a rainbow,
I see this city,
burning in your eyes,
Out of the ashes,
phoenix rise,
The past was so dark,
sometimes you forgot to sing,
but now the time has come,
for baby birds to take wing,
When you fly just remember,
the meaning of your name,
and never forget,
the you were born of flame,
I see this city,
burning in your eyes,
Out of the ashes,
phoenix rise . . .
