Girl

Little girl,
hiding,
underneath the covers;
footsteps echo in the hall.
Crying out to her daddy,
Please dont,
let him,
touch me anymore.
Only minutes later, she lies there,
weeping for her shame.

Pretty girl,
kneeling,
inside her bathroom;
her mind filled with delusions.
Crying out to the media,
Please dont,
let me,
be ugly anymore.
Only minutes later, she lies there,
dry heaving, denying her bulimia.

Tired girl,
yearning,
for escape from this earth;
noose in place, stool kicked over.
Crying out to an empty house,
Please dont,
let me,
be lonely anymore.
Only minutes later, she lies there,
cord snapped, gasping for more air.

Frightened girl,
cringing,
from the lustful man;
recoiling from his touch, pushing him away.
Crying out to deaf ears,
Please dont,
let him,
rape me tonight.
Only minutes later, she lies there,
bleeding on the bed.

Worried girl,
waiting,
in breathless silence;
test in hand, afraid to look.
Crying out to her god,
Please dont,
let me,
be pregnant now.
Only minutes later, she lies there,
helpless on the floor.

Tormented girl,
keening,
in the kitchen floor;
wrists slashed, pills in hand.
Crying out to anyone,
Please dont,
let me,
suffer anymore.
Only minutes later, she lies there,
discovered, wishing she were dead.

Scarred girl,
struggling,
with an angry man;
slammed against the car door.
Crying out to herself,
Please dont,
let him,
strike me this time.
Only minutes later, she lies there,
battered on the ground.

Lost girl,
stumbling,
in a strangers house;
rocks in place, lighter waiting.
Crying out to her dealer,
Please dont,
ever let me,
come down from this high.
Only minutes later, she lies there,
trembling, craving more.

Empty girl,
standing,
on the bridge at night;
gun in hand, dark in heart.
Crying out to no one,
Please dont,
let me,
live life anymore.
Only minutes later, she lies there,
broken in the street.
