Farewell Kiss?

The final end has come at last,
The one you love is now at rest,
It is not your belovd that you caress,
and clutch so dearly to your breast,
No breath of being remains,
It is not a soul you hold,
but a body void of life,
already stiffening with cold,
Your tears fall on unfeeling flesh,
your whispers are wasted on deaf ears,
No lingering spirit hearkens to your calls,
your pleas to return no departed love hears,
Your fit of lonely desperation,
is a drama that I alone am here to see,
I witness your moans and your wailing,
but no weeping can move me to pity,
None hear you raging at your loss,
nor witness the anguish of your despair,
No one is left who can comfort you now,
or relieve you of the sorrow which you bear,
No other but I remain to listen,
to all your belated farewells,
Only I hear your desperate question,
of where your belovd now dwells,
None but I receive your sad confessions,
your apologies to the dead,
And because your true love is gone forever,
you give me a tearful last kiss instead,
Your sweet love is gone,
though I do not know where,
It is I, Death,
whom you are kissing here.
