| Fair Weather Friends Fair weather friends are there for the games, They're there for the sunshine but leave when it rains, They like the beaches when you're around, But don't count on them if you start to drown, They like to share laughter and bask in your joy, But speaking of problems will begin to annoy, They are fine friends when you both smile, Just don't expect them to walk the extra mile, They espouse your ideals like "I still believe," But when you need them most you'll find that they leave, You see fair weather friends are there just to play, Not fit for rough weather, they simply won't stay, They don't understand that this behavior's not right, Even though they be bonded with blood-sister might, You see these snakes uses flattery, share good times, then wait, So that when bemused, you foolishly open your heart's gate, Once inside only one side of their face will they keep shown, So the second side may hide and, masked, not be known, For the worst of these "friends" is those who masquerade, Amazingly some can the pretense for over a decade, They will stay through small troubles seeming a true friend, But this is only a ploy to cloak the coming of the end, So that when they unveil their true behavior, Your senses will reel and all trust will waver, You'll cry to the gods that your friend please still be true, But then she'll turn it around and blame all of it on you, "There's too much rain when you're around," she'll say, Then she'll skip off down her sheltered, ignorant way, She will abandon you when you most need aid, And even though you loved her, you feel ultimately betrayed, "Best friends forever" you both used to chant and to boast, But now which side was real and which was the ghost? If you think this impossible then for me shed some tears, After all, I lost my best friend after 15 fair weather years. |
