About the City of Gulfport
Gulfport occupies 2.8 square miles. The 87 year old city was first settled by a few hundred people as a fishing village. It now has about 12,000 residents. For a small town, there is an impressive support of its historical and art communities. Less than 10 minutes from downtown St. Petersburg, Gulfport has been described as a quaint, cozy, quiet and historic place to live.
The Gulfport Arts Village reportedly is the largest, organized art community in the Tampa Bay area. It is comprised of shops and galleries that represent work in all media and is an indirect result of the many working artists who have in-house studios here. In recent years the area has experienced a kind of Renaissance while enjoying a historical, Bohemian culture. You're invited to come and take a leisurely stroll through this friendly neighborhood!
Recent development projects include an expanded library, marina renovation, beachfront and landscape improvements. Relatively low housing costs are an incentive to new residents who quickly discover that house sell quickly in Gulfport. This attracts a homogeneous mix of seniors, young families, singles, trades people, and artists.
For prospective retirees who wish to enjoy their Golden Years near the wide, sandy Gulf Beaches, it's only a 10-minute drive by car to St. Pete Beach on the Gulf of Mexico.
