PAST WORKSHOPS

November 2004/Miami

Carmela Greco
   - Carmela offered a very meaningful workshop to all of her students by not just "teaching the steps and choreography" but also by imparting wisdom and knowledge about what it means to be an artist.  About respect for the art of flamenco.  About humility.  About joys of dancing.  I think she left a lasting impression on many of the students here.
   - Her beginner class learned Tangos/body movement while her intermediate class learned a Tarantos.

May 2004/Miami

Inmaculada Ortega
   - Inma wowed her students with her beautiful use of arms and upper body.  She taught a Soleá, with or without a bata de cola.  She also showed her students her unique style by teaching them small bits and pieces of: Alegrías, Fandangos, and Tangos.
   - Some students learned about this workshop through this website; one even came from Washington, DC (a former fellow dance student)!

February 2004/Miami

Andrés Marín
   - Andrés gave his students a taste of "modern-style" flamenco from Sevilla during his workshop.  He taught a Tangos in the beginner/intermediate class and a Soleá por Bulerías in the intermediate/advanced class.
   - While in Miami, he worked with the company members of Bailes Ferrer to choreograph a Malagueñas and a Segiuiriyas.

August 2003/Miami

Nélida Tirado
   - The second in the series of Bailes Ferrer's <Flamenco in the Sun> summer workshops, Neli came to dazzle us with her unique style and earthy movements.  In both the beginner and advanced classes, she emphasized the continuous movement of our upper body and arms, as well as placement of our "cuerpo".  Along with great technique material, she taught the beginner class a short Tangos piece, and for the advanced class, a Tientos.

July 2003/Miami

Omayra Amaya
   - Omayra's intensive workshop was held at the Teatro Abanico in Coral Gables.  This workshop was part of a series of annual summer workshops organized by Bailes Ferrer.  She taught a Tangos in the beginner/intermediate class and a Soleá por Bulerías in the advanced class.  Despite Miami being her "home base", it is a rare treat for South Floridians to get a chance to take her classes.  Students came not only from far away Florida cities such as Orlando and Tampa, but some came all the way from Kentucky!

June 2003/Miami

Manolete
   - Manolete's week-long workshop was held at PAN in North Miami.  He taught a Soleá in the beginner class and an Alegrías in the intermediate/advanced level class.
   - He also participated in a performance by Ballet Flamenco La Rosa as the guest star and exhibited his famous Farruca, but I was absolutely taken by his last solo, a Soleá/Alegrías, danced with grace and power, with a hint of playfulness with the compás.
