Senior President's Letter

Dear Members, Seniors, DAR, SAR, and SR Supporters,

It is hard to believe that we have finished another great F.S.C.A.R. year and are
embarking on a new one. But we are! I wonder what adventures lay before us as
we are “Discovering Florida’s Roadside Attractions?”

State Conference was a blast! April chose an excellent place to hold the conference—
Deerfield Beach. Our hotel faced the ocean—what fun! But it was not all
play we had our business meeting—elected our new State Officers and installed
them. Our newly elected State President, Valerie Bagenski, gave us a scare, but
she is fine and ready for a great year!

The National Convention in Washington, DC was interesting to say the least.
Kelly Knight was elected National Vice President. The first vote ended in a tie
and we had some excitement rounding up all of the Florida delegates for the runoff
election. But we rounded them up and she won the run-off election. What a
thriller! The installation ceremony is usually at Mount Vernon, President
Washington’s home, but not this year. The weather had been bright and sunny on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, however the rains moved in on Sunday. So it was off to “plan B.” We held the installation services in the basement ballroom of the Hyatt Regency Hotel. Everyone was sworn in and we went on with the rest of the days
activities. Then we were off to the airport and sunny Florida.

Since being back in Florida Valerie and I have represented F.S.C.A.R. at FLSSAR’s annual meeting. The FLSSAR is very supportive of F.S.C.A.R. and we pre-sold 35 pins at the meeting. And speaking of pins we have ordered them and will soon have them for sale. Believe me they look awesome and YOU WILL WANT ONE or two or maybe more. We are busy making plans for future events. Southeastern Regional is going to be July 29th and 30th. Don’t miss it! It is being held at the Sawgrass Marriott in Jacksonville. The registration form is in the Orange Blossom.
Be sure to make you hotel reservations soon as June 20th is the last day for hotel reservations.

The packet meetings will be held the last of August and the first of September. With Southeastern Regional being held so late it has affected when we have our packet meetings. You will be notified when the meeting will be in your area by your society president. We will have our December Board Meeting in conjunction with the British Night Watch. I have reserved rooms at the Days Inn in St. Augustine. The cost is $62.00 a night and November 12th is the last day for reservations. Their phone number is 904-824-3383 and be sure to mention “Children of the American Revolution Group Rate.” More information will be in the September Orange Blossom.

Plans are also being made for our State Seminar. It will be the weekend of January 17-19, 2009. It will be held at Lion Country Safari. If you want to camp you need to call the KOA campground adjacent to Lion Country Safari immediately. They fill up quickly with “snowbirds.” The phone number is 1-800-562-9115 and the
online reservation is [email protected] I will have room reserved at the Royal Inn, but that information will be in the September Orange Blossom.
We are looking at the Kissimmee area as the location for our State Conference. There will be more on that at
a later date.
