The Tampa Bay Chapter of the UNA-USA covers an area of five Counties on the West Coast of Florida with St. Petersburg and Tampa being the two largest cities in the area.
Membership is approximately 125 with a goal of attaining 160 by the end of the year 2000. The Chapter has a Board of Directors of 14 with 8 of these being Young Professionals. The program is focused on (1) education, (2) advocacy/government relations, and (3) membership development with a Vice President responsible for each area.
In the area of education during the last three years, the Chapter has concentrated on strengthening interface with and program support for the High School Model United Nations and on impacting on the internationalization of high school curriculum in the area. A working relationship was established with teachers through their in-service training program.
The Chapter was established in the early 1970s and presently has a very cooperative relationship with a number of Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) such as the League of Women Voters, Church Women United, various churches, Association of American University Women, the Bah'ai Community, Sokka Gakka, and the Jewish Community.
Paul Yingst is in his fifth year as Chapter President; Carol Delia is VP for Advocacy and Government Relations; Tom Cook is VP for Education; LeAndrea Drum is VP for Membership; Garry Fullerton is Treasurer; Latesa Bailey is Secretary; and Dr. Jeff Maddux is Membership Chair.
Regular meetings are held generally on the fourth Saturday of each month except that there are no meetings in July and August. Meetings are held at the Pasadena Yacht and Country Club in St. Petersburg.
