1999 UNA Florida Division Convention

UNA FLORIDA DIVISION CONVENTION, Sarasota, April 30-May 2, 1999

The UNA Sarasota-Manatee Chapter hosts the 1999 UNA Florida Convention, from April 30 to May 1, 1999, at Holliday Inn Riverview, Bradenton. There were around 120 participants, most of them are members of the UNA Chapters, the Florida Division and its Council of Organizations, attending the Convention including workshops, lunches and dinners.

Participants had the opportunity to meet, talked with and heard from Ambassador William Luers, our new national Chairman, President and CEO and Ambassador Chen Guofang , Deputy Permanent Representative of the People Republic of China, on "China-US Relations and Cooperations in the UN". There were also other interesting speakers, including James Olson,Vice-President for Programs, UNA-USA Tom Cook, Dr.Margaret Bates and Dr. Daniel Luu from Sarasota-Manatee Chapter, energizing workshops, UNA Web sites demonstrations, plenary session with input from chapters and chapter members.

The Convention awas also allowing some free time on Saturday afternoon for those who would like to visit Sarasota's famous Ringling Art Museum (admission is free on Saturdays) or other attractions.

	2:30 - 3:30	Internet demonstration: accessing UN and UNA Web pages, presentation of the Sarasota-Manatee Web site and setting up a Web site for Florida Division.

	3:30 - 6:00	Free time to explore the Sarasota- Manatee area (Ringling Art Museum, Mote Marine Aquarium, Selby Gardens, Bishop Planetarium [with Snooty the manatee and friend] , Gulf Coast Heritage Trail, beaches, etc.)  
	6:00 - 7:00	Cash bar reception, Courtyard.
	7:00 - 8:30	Dinner, Rio West Room.
			Speaker: Ambassador Shen Guofang, Deputy Permanent  Representative of the People's Republic of China to the United Nations, "China-US Relations and Cooperation in the U.N."
