| Alex with his nephew, Ryan. Ryan is 12. He has a very rare blood disorder called Black Fan Diamond Syndrome. It's kind of like leukemia in the fact this his blood marrow does not make enough red blood cells. He is now surviving on weekly blood transfusions. A bone marrow match has finally been found!I can't urge everybody enough to have their blood tested to be a bone marrow donor - right here is a very good example why! He's slighly taller than my (almost) 4-year old because he had to be on steriods for most of his life to stimulate his marrow to make new red blood cells. His body recently stopped responding to the medication, hence the need for a bone marrow transplant. |
