The Phil Joel Strangely Normal Tour

February 7, 2001 at The Glass House in Pomona, California

Yup. I was there. So was Phil. It was wonderful, and at some future date I may post an actual concert review here... for now, I'm just showing you some pictures. I took a lot more than these, mind you, but mostly they came out quite badly. These are the ones that are at least presentable. :)

We begin with this shot of Levi Bowen from New Zealand who was the MC of the concert (and thanks to Becca for telling me his name). He was cool. He had a Phil accent. Which I suppose is actually a New Zealand accent, but I tend to think of it as a Phil accent and I'm sure most of you do the same... Earthsuit fans may recognize someone else in this picture. :)

And here's Phil! Isn't this is a lovely shot of the roof of his mouth? His dentist would be proud. :)

And a matching shot of Phil's eyelids. Also note that the guitarist is bald... I theorize that Phil wanted some touch of familiarity on his first big tour without the Newsboys. :)

Check out the girl in front of me recording the concert-- wish I had her tape. :) But if you spend too much of the concert trying to capture it on film, you haven't really experienced it. At least, that's what I tell myself.

Phil playing "Watching Over You". Know what I've discovered? People whose eyes are big and pretty and blue are very prone to redeye.

After the concert Phil came out and met all the fans! (All the ones who were smart enough to stay, that is.) Here he is with some happy redheaded girl. Who could she be? She looks like the type who'll run straight home and scan the picture for her website.

I had all this film to use up so I figured the best thing to do would be to hang around and get shots of Phil meeting the fans. I mean, if you need to take a bunch of pictures anyway, and Phil happens to be in the general vicinity... As for the fans, that's JesusFreakette on the left and Supertonette on the right (you can't see much, I know). It's thanks to them that I got to be so close to the stage; I arrived at the concert late but they let me cut in with them, thus earning my everlasting gratitude. :)

That hat! Covers his eyes! Not to mention his hair! Grrrrrr....

That stuffed lamb in the background there was Eanah's present to Phil (for Phynley).

Eanah was a good person to meet Phil with-- she made me ask him for a picture of his HEATHER tattoo. Here it is, and I'm quite happy that it came out so well. You can actually read it!

Okay, so that's my page on the Phil Joel Strangely Normal Tour, and of course it's awesome 'cause it's mine, :) but I must admit that there's a woman named Jen who has an even better page on this subject. She went to two of his concerts, one of which was a taping for a TV show, and she hung out with him and all the other artists and took really awesome pictures and generally did everything she could to make me jealous of her.

Wheres the Thane of Cawdor?
We coursd him at the heels, and had a purpose
To be his purveyor; but he rides well,
And his great love, sharp as his spur, hath holp him
To his home before us.
