FLORENCE COUNTY CITIZENS IN ACTION
APRIL 24, 2007
The April 24, 2007 meeting of the Florence County Citizens in Action was held at 6:00 p.m. at Florence Bible Chapel with 23 members present. Chairman Licia Stone opened the meeting at 6:30 p.m.
Dean Fowler led Pledge of Allegiance.
Brenda Gibson read minutes from March meeting.
Miriam Dew gave treasurer report.
Licia Stone introduced our guest speaker, Probate Judge Kenneth Eaton, who gave us a pep talk on FCCIA keeping up the good work, as we do make a difference. Judge Eaton instructed us on procedures in getting help for the mentally ill, and drug & alcohol dependent through the probate office. He had a very informative open discussion on �All you wanted to know about probate but were afraid to ask.�
Ms. Stone asked for more participation in petition drive. Petition co-chair Lou Vause reported on petition drive. We now have 4010 signatures of 11,000 needed. Volunteers will be at Olanta Flea Market on May 5 th and volunteers are needed for Lake City . Lou also gave out schedules for last two days of each month for April, May and June for the Florence City-County Complex.
Licia gave handout of recent Florence County Council raises she received through Freedom of Information Act. Discussion followed on making this public knowledge, as other county employees did not receive raises.
The telephone committee has been asked to call members each month 1 to 2 days before each meeting reminding them of them of the forthcoming meeting. The telephone committee is also to update e-mail addresses
Walt Ranson advised us the Florence County Council budget ordinance in process. Workshops are starting and these workshops are opened to the public.
Our next meeting will be May 22, 2007 , @ 6 o'clock at Florence Bible Chapel, 1400 Second Loop Road, Corner of Woods Road and Second Loop, Florence , S C 29505 with an employee of DHEC as our guest speaker. He is to tell us about incineration versus landfills.
