FLORENCE COUNTY CITIZENS IN ACTION
September 26, 2006
The September 26, 2006 meeting of the Florence County Citizens in Action was held at Bazen's Restaurant. Chairman Licia Stone opened the meeting with Dean Fowler leading the Pledge of Allegiance.
Miriam Dew gave the Treasurer Report.
Jack Nettles gave an update on presentation to County Council requesting creation of an ethics commission. Mr. Nettles is still waiting on final reply.
A discussion was held on petition reducing road tax from $30.00 to $15.00.
New Business: Licia announced new committees and chairpersons. Florence County Citizens in Action now have a Phone Committee, Publicity Committee, Letter Committee, and Program Committee.
Licia Stone introduced our speaker Russell Barrett, Chairman of Elections Commission. Mr. Barrett gave us an update list of “Florence County Precincts and Polling Locations.” He discussed local candidates for the November 7, 2006 election, the four (4) “Amendments to the Constitution of the State of South Carolina” and the “Capital Project Sales and Use Tax Referendum” that will be on the ballot in November.
Lou Vause and Bill Hoffmeyer updated members on the petition drive to reduce the $30.00 the Road Maintenance Fee to $15.00 asking for volunteers for each district.
Our October 24, 2006 (4 th Tuesday) will be at Bazen's Restaurant.Our speaker will be Jim McGee on the $.01 Road Tax. (Capital Project Sales and Use Tax Referendum)
Our November 28, 2006 (4 th Tuesday) will be at Bazen's Restaurant
Our speaker will be Mr. Richard Walden of the Veterans Affairs.
We will not have a December meeting but starting in January, 2007 we will be meeting at Florence Bible Chapel, 1400 Second Loop Road, Florence, S C 29505.
