Florence County Citizens In Action

The May 22, 2006 Meeting of the Florence County Citizens In Action was held at the in the Founders Room of the Drs. Bruce and Lee Foundation Library. Chairman Lou Vasue opened the meeting at 6:30PM. Murray Jordan led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance. Treasurer, Licia Stone reported a bank balance of $1773.03.
Mrs. Vause introduced new member Dr. James Archie.
Chairman Vause encouraged members and the letter committee to submit letters to the editor. Several members voiced the concern that letters were submitted to the Morning News but the letters were never printed.
Chairman Vause complimented Murray Jordan and Walt Ranson on recent presentations made before County Council.
Mrs. Vause announced that the County Budget workshop would be held on the upcoming Thursday. As the time had not been announced, Mrs. Vause said she would notify the group as soon as she found out. She encouraged members to attend.
Chairman Vause asked for volunteers for the nominating Committee. Hearing none, she said that she would appoint members.
Mrs. Vasue asked Jack Nettles for a report concerning the Ethics Commission. Mr. Nettles said that he would appear before County Council as soon as he can get on the agenda.
Murray Jordan commented that an evening meeting of council would be ideal to announce the Ethics Commission. However, he said the upcoming evening meeting at the Lake City Bean Market would not be a good idea because of the acoustical problems.
Tommy Griffin, member of the Program Committee, introduced Mr. Phillip Luckadoo. Mr. Luckadoo gave the audience maps pertaining to the proposed downtown revitalization. Mr. Luckadoo gave an informative presentation pertaining to the proposed redevelopment and answered questions following the presentation.
Chairman Vause asked for ideas concerning future meeting locations. She stated that she had contacted Carolina Hospital concerning the new building constructed for community meetings, but had been told that the meetings had to be health related. She said that the June and August meeting were scheduled for the library.
