Flora of H. K. of Jordan
Preface
This site is devoted entirely to the flora of Jordan. The site was a personal dream to produce a simple reference for the global electronic user, since there are no sites of such kind available. This site includes all species recorded in Jordan territories.
As far as possible, the information given in the following pages is from my own observations on living and herbarium material, Obviously, I have had to refer to some literature, but I have tried to minimize this as far as possible to avoid excessive plagiarism.
The list of species names dose not include all the synonyms in existence, the task of thoroughly checking every name against its description and specimens would be enormous and beyond the scope of the site. I have included the names of the authors of each species- that is, the names of botanists who first gave the species in question a correct Latin name and description. There is so much confusion of species names within the genus that has to be precise in order to make the meaning clear. On other words, without author's name, confusion would reign supreme!
In general , I have not dealt with cultivars or even the lower taxonomic ranks. The names are arranged alphabetically according to their families, genera and species. For reasons of time and space ,I have just included this site some selected superb species photos in their natural habitats. Finally, I hope that, more modifications and improvements would be made in the coming future.
