| The Idiot's Guide to Forgetting a Heartache By FlorencePia G. Yu |
|||||||
| You've just been relegated among the dateless who will be lining up for the firing squad on Valentines Day (or on any other day for that matter). Your story: The one you love doesn't love you back. You've torn your heart out; professed undying love, but you've been simply waved off with the line, "I'm sorry. I only like you as a friend." You fall into the absolute pits. Dashing to Carbon and scourging for all the aphrodisiacs you can buy can't help you. Neither will hurling yourself from the skywalk or having speeding jeepneys run over you. Or locking yourself in an elevator with a person having killer underarm smell. Suicidal missions are for dolts. Why punish yourself further? It's not your fault. The other person just can't love you the way you want them to. Don't despair. You are going to get over this. Rescue yourself. 1. Okay, give yourself a month or two to grieve over the love that isn't to be. Sigh, what can you do? You got a mote, not the apple of your eye. Now, drop those pathetic romantic illusions. Nothing is as depressing as a hopeless, one-sided romantic attraction. 2 The key word here: Forget. Get rid of stuff that reminds you of him/her. Now's not the time to be sentimental. Pack those things and send them to charity (or if you can't bear to part with the gold necklace he gave you last Valentine's, you can try hitting your head against the wall and pray that selective amnesia takes effect on you). 3. And stop playing love songs, or else you will permanently turn into mush and will have to be scrapped off the ground with a spatula. 4. Life is short; don't waste it pining for the one you can't have. They say for everything else that goes, there is always something better bound to come along (hope that it's EwanMcGreggor and that heart-melting smile). 5. So you weren't able to snag the person of your dreams. That's okay. Maybe it is meant to happen so you won't miss the right one who just may be right under your nose (I didn't mean pick that booger!). |
