The Saturn V Project

Launch Day!!!  Two attempts were made to fly this rockect, once on 4/1/01 and again on 4/4/01, with "D" size engines.  Both times it became unstable 10 - 20 feet from the LCU and damaged the rocket as it hit the ground at a high velocity.  I believe this kit is too heavy for a "D" engine so it is currently undergoing a retrofit for an "E" size engine.

Here are photos of the completed Launch Control Unit (LCU).  See details about the PCB construction here.  This unit contains a countdown timer with display that fires the engine at "0".  At 10 seconds before launch, it retracts the lug arm.  I included an anometer to monitor wind speed and shutdown the launch if it exceeds 10mph.
Back to Rockets!!
After an E-size engine refit, the Saturn had it's first successful launch on 11/22/01.  Finally, the Saturn V in all its glory!!
