As Jay was constructing a new glider, I thought a way to get the glider into the clouds was in order. I started with a $4 styrofoam glider from WalMart, added some control surfaces and micro-gear and then began testing. Jay and I tried towing the test glider first, but the model was very unstable behind the tow plane. I ended up designing a carrier that fastens on top of the tow plane. The glider is held in place with rubber bands and the bands are released by a camed servo. Initial flights with the test glider proved promising and subsequent flights with Jay's glider at a recent Fun Fly was a real crowd pleaser. |
