| Utricularia (Bladderworts) have small bladders the size of pinheads attached to their roots. Epiphytic and terrestrial bladderworts have roots in the soil while aquatic bladderworts have, as the name suggests, roots in the water. They catch tiny micro-organisms in a 15000th of a second - wow! The bladder has minute trigger hairs on the outside of the trap and when brushed, will cause the trap to open wide and pull in the organism. Digestive enzymes are then released and the nutrients will be absorbed. |
