Theme of Night in Macbeth

The theme of night in literature is similar to that of darkness. It also has to do with ignorance, intellectual and moral blindness as well as being related to evil in some ways, but it also represents a time of sadness or sorrow, misfortune (and the like.)

Night as it applies to setting:

                      * The two first murders are carried out under the cover of night so as to hide Macbeths deeds.

                      * Scottland is in a state of constant sorrow under the rule of the tyrant king

Night as it applies to character:

                     Macbeth:
                           * Macbeth developes a state of moral blindness when begins murdering to secure his kingship

                          * Macbeth is abandoned by many of his followers that can see what will come of his tyranny
-Macbeth still doesn't see that he will lose

                           * Macbeth is ignorant to what he is doing to Scotland
