The music played at his funeral was none other then the music he had just finished composing for the Queen's death. Purcell was a composer, organist and bass and counter tenor signer. It's sad that his music has gone into forms that are difficult No complete score exists from Purcell's music or his time . Purcell provided a number of verse anthems and full anthems for the Church of England, as well as hymns for the Morning and Evening Service. The anthems offer considerable musical interest. Instrumental music by Purcell, in addition to the theater music, includes sets of fantasias for viols and two sets of trio sonatas. Although Purcell was employed for over half his life as an organist of the Chapel Royal and at West minster Abbey, he wrote relatively little for the instrument. His harpsichord music includes a number of suites, some of which include transcriptions of his own theater music. Purcell was the greatest English composer of the Baroque period. His earliest surviving works date from 1680. Much of the theater music consists of songs and instrumental pieces for spoken plays, but during the last five years of his life Purcell collaborated on five 'semi operas'. His only true opera was Dido and Aeneas, written for a girls' school. Purcell was said to be master at any type of music that he turned his hand to. A complete list of Purcell's music does not exist yet because they are still finding more of his pieces. The most updated list is listed below.

Awake, put on thy strength
Behold, I bring you glad tidings
Behold now, praise the Lord
Blessed are they that fear the Lord
Blessed is he whose unrighteousness is forgiven
Blessed is the man that feareth the Lord
Blow up the trumpet in Sion
Bow down thine ear, O Lord
Hear my prayer, O Lord
In thee, O Lord, do I put my trust
In the midst of life
It is a good thing to give thanks
I was glad when they said unto me (verse anthem)
I was glad when they said unto me (full anthem)
I will give thanks unto thee, O Lord
I will give thanks unto the Lord
I will sing unto the Lord
Let God arise
Lord, how long wilt thou be angry?
Lord, who can tell how oft he offendeth?
Man that is born of a woman
My beloved spake
My heart is fixed, O God
My heart is inditing
My song shall be always
O consider my adversity
O give thanks unto the Lord
O God, the king of glory,
O God, thou art my God
O God, thou hast cast us out
O Lord God of hosts
O Lord, grant the kind a long life
O Lord our governor
O praise God in his holiness
O sing unto the Lord
Praise the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me
Praise the Lord, O my soul, O Lord my God
Rejoice in the Lord alway
Remember not, Lord, our offences
Save me, O God
The Lord is my light
They that go down to the sea in ships
Thou know'st, Lord, the secrets of our hearts
Thou know'st, Lord, the secrets of our hearts
Thy righteousness, O God, is very high
Thy way, O God, is holy
Thy word is a lantern unto my feet
Turn thou us, O good Lord
Unto thee will I cry, O Lord
Why do the heathen so furiously rage together?
If the Lord himself
Praise the Lord, ye servants
O God, they that love thy name
Catches
An ape, a lion, a fox and an ass
God save our sovereign Charles
Here's that will challenge all the fair
