Geological Causes and Effects
The main problem of the Yellow River and its history of flooding is the silt deposit which is caused by remarkably high sediment load, eventhough a lot of effort had been used by the Chinese government to stop the severe eroision upstream, they have not been successful. The Yellow River on average takes 37kg of sediment per m3 of water. The Yangtze river does not produce nearly the amount of sediment. People have been trying to solve this problem fro 2000 years but they have been using the same old technology and they have not tried something new. They are still trying to solve the problem by using shovels and wheel barrels. They are now planning on building a huge damn which will protect themfrom the floods wrath but if there is even a tiny leak in it the flood will be able to flood lots of kilometres anyway. In 1938 however; the cause was the levees. they were intentionally broken and ended up causing great devestation.
