A flood is when water rises above its normal state in which water will overflow from its basin and onto dry land. Floods can have very fatal endings,causing tremendous devastation. Floods usually happen due to alot of rainfall through short periods of time. Another way a flood can occur is by ice jams during a spring rise, storm tides and tsunamis. Floods cause damage to the environment and puts the lives of humans and animals in risk.
The bad effects of a flood is that it causes problems with the dranage and the economic land use. It also causes traffic delays and it disturbs navigation and hydroelectic power. Floods can damage millions and billions of dollars in financial losses each and every year.
Floods are not always bad, they can be good. After the flood retreats it will leave behind enriched soil which is absolutely perfect for farming use. |
