Detailed Examination of the Yellow River Flood of 1931
China has a long and horrible history of flooding. In the last 2000 years the Yangtze River has showed its powerful force of devestation to the country of China more than 1000 times. Even then it has not caused as much damage as the Yellow River otherwise known as the Hwang He. People living in the west have now started to call the river "China's Sorrow," this is because it has killed more innocent people then any other flood in the world. In 1887 it had showed its first tremendous act of fury by killing nearly two million people. In 1938 it had once again rised and showed its strength by killing almost a million people, but it was not until the year 1931 came that it truly destroyed alot of people. It had killed 3.7 million people, which does not include starvation or homeless. They have tryed to stop it many times by making the levees bigger but that has not worked. There was once this man who had tried two control the river and almost succeded. He had been later named king of China. He had said once out of his own mouth that whoever could control the Yellow River would be the one allowed to control China.

Today we will be talking about the flood that killed 3.7 million people in 1931. We will be using this flood to represent the flood with the biggest death toll

The flood caused about 17 billion dollars of damage in american currency. It had left about 12 million homeless. There had been a legend that the gods had been angry with the nation of China and had shown their strength through the Yellow River. The chinese people had thought that it was a sign that great danger was to come. Sure enough seven years later Japanese invaders had come to try to invade the Chinese people. In the process the levees of the Yellow River were intentionally broken in an attempt to stop the Japanese invaders. This lead to another massive flooding which took some nine hundred thousand lives.
