26. Obituary.
27. AL Christian Advocate  --
27 Aug 1908 - DEESE---Mrs Sarah Jane DEESE, nee CHOVOUS, born Apr 13, 1854, in Robinson Co, NC (should be Robeson Co); died at her home in Columbia, AL, Aug 5, 1908. She was married, back in their home county, on Jan 20, 1873, to Mr Jas M DEESE. The young couple were not members of the church, but very soon, in 1875, together joined the old Asbury Church, of the M E Church, South. They have ever since been loyal, devoted Methodists.
In 1890 Brother & Sister DEESE, with their family, moved to AL, with their family, settling near Columbia, & since that time have been members of the Columbia Church. Sister DEESE leaves her husband & 6 children to follow her. She has left to them the heritage of a noble, Christian life--and her works will follow her.
In her last months of sickness, Sister DEESE was a great sufferer, but as uncomplaining & patient as could be. She loved life & clung tenaciously to it--but she was not afraid to die, & went with calm & peaceful trust. In her devotion to the church she was long an example here. She taught in the Sunday school, was an active member of the 2 women's societies, & was always in her place at the church services. She was a pure, noble wife & mother--and her husband & children most becomingly "Rise up & call her blessed." With all who have known her, I shall hold her in grateful remembrance. --- Henry M ANDREWS. AL State Archives film.

    90. Newspaper Article - Deseret News 14 Feb 1923 - pg 1 Second Section - Alleged Embezzler of Restaurant Funds Takes Life with Gun---- Rather than submit to arrest on a charge of embezzlement, Thomas W DEESE, 34, of 569 3rd East St, committed suicide by firing a bullet into his brain abt 5 o'clock Tues aftn. Two hours later Deese died in the emergency hospital.
DEESE wa a bookkeeper for the Sparey-Mehse Co. & it was alleged he was short in his accts to the amt of $2,400. Tues A R BAIN, secretary-treasurer of the Co, filed a complaint against DEESE charging embezzlement, the specific amt alleged to have been taken being $180. A warrant of arrest was given to Det for service. DEESE told the etectives a physician had ordered him to remain in bed, & he begged for time in which to "fix things with the boss." Det WHITE left to phone DEESE's physician. While he was gone DEESE arose & dressed. He remarked to Det WIRE that he might just as well "get it over with." The man then stepped into the back yard & shot himself.
DEESE was rushed to the emergency hospital but efforts to save his life proved unavailing. He died without regaining consciousness. DEESE is survived by his wife & infant son.
DEESE had been in the employ of the restaurant company since May 1922. An audit of accts in Jan is alleged to have disclosed a shortage of $2,400. Both his employers & a bonding company allowed DEESE additional time to make good the shortage but he was unable to meet the demands. The body was removed to the E G O'Donnell Mortuary.........

I, John Richbourg, was b 23 Aug 1747 in what is now Clarendon Co, but then was called St Mark's Parish in Craven Co, SC. George Washington & Francis Marion were both boys of 15 then. In this, the year 1832, I am 85y old and know my birth date is correct because I copied it out of our family Bible where my father had it recorded in his own handwriting.
I am a son of Claudius Richbourg and his second wife, Unity Fox, and a grandson of the Rev Claude Philippe de Richebourg (which we later Americanized to Richbourg). My grandfather left France with his French wife Anne Chastain, the dau of Etienne Chastain. 4 Aug 1976.
