Here is some of my comments on CLAMP's work on Chobits. Art Work If i am not wrong, this is the first time that CLAMP is trying out this technique. Notice the eyes of the characters? Those are like huge dark pools... Unlike those gentle eyes of characters in Sakura Cardcaptor nor the dazzled bright eyes of CLAMP detectives and in X too. Strangely, you may also notice that the lining seemed a little crude, not smooth in X nor bland as in Sakura Cardcaptor. i will take this as a failing point for CLAMP work. Still i believe i can recognise the drawing of CLAMP. Storyline A relax and mature storyline. Unlike in CCS, the story based more on sadness i think than cheerfulness. Therefore, i really like the attitude the story began with... light, cheerful, less serious. Basically I have only read on CLAMP School Detectives, X, CCS and Chobits. So i do not know about their other works. But i do think X is a near failure. There is a strong sense of depression, sadness, grief, strange thinking... it makes me rather depressed reading it. Of course, there may be other opinions too. On the whole if i am to judge on story, this is a real simple story like ccs. But i think it really reflect the maturity of the artists of CLAMP. i'm sure this will be one of their best work if the storyline continues in this manner. The only minus point i think will be the usual strange ideas usually found in CLAMP's work. This time is the element of sex and marriage. Loopholes in Chobits Nothing is really ever perfect. There are loopholes in this series though not as serious as in ccs or X. Still,... CLAMP may have a little research to do on computers, i think. One obvious problem to me is a statement made by Chii after her first day's work. It had reported that she had given away many gifts. Maybe I am a little too critical, but I feel that in order to express the difference between a computer and a human, language usage is the key. Allow me to explain this error, to computers such vague words as 'few', 'many', 'almost' are nonsensical. That is, even if they used it, it is most likely to be wrong. Just as in Chii's conversation to Hideki after receiving a bag of dresses from Hibiya. The usage of 'also' is also uncertain to a computer. Hence, a better evident maybe for Chii to report the exact number of gifts she had given away. There is other comment on this loophole, saying that maybe to express that Chii-chan is really a super-Persocon with human capability. That I can only reply, possible... maybe I am too critical after all. Well, here are just some of my own private opinions... I will write more when I get more to read... And, "GAMBATTE!!! CLAMP!" i look forward to your next piece of work on Chobits.
