Amier was born on February 29, 1976. He received his elementary education from Taluksangay Elementary School in Zamboanga City, where he grew up with his grandmother who was at the same time the head teacher of that school. He had a simple and happy childhood despite having lost his father when he was two years old. Sports is perhaps his deep-rooted interest. When he was a young boy in his home province Sulu, he was already very passionate about playing basketball. He grew up to be a talented basketball player and if only the opportunity to be a professional basketball player knocked, he would have grabbed it without a second thought. During his college years at the Western Mindanao State University, he qualified for membership into the basketball varsity team and received several awards. The eldest of four siblings, Amier used to work for and turnover majority of his income to his family. While he actually completed the BS Civil Engineering course, he busied himself with the seaweeds business in Taluksangay right after college. Seaweeds buying and selling has long been one of the major marine agriculture business in Zamboanga City and the neighboring islands. The seaweeds were dried up and sold per kilo, and then shipped out to clients in major Philippine cities as well as abroad. Four years ago, Amier left Zamboanga City in search of something new. He stayed in Davao City for more than a year, hoping to finally venture into the world he educated himself for. He spent a few months attending review classes for the Civil Engineering board examination. It was however not the ideal time, as the results left out his name and he was prodded to look for a job in Davao City to sustain his new life away from home. |
