Just for fun I thought I'd post the newest version of my Type I deck. It's been around for about a year and a half now, ever since the PT Dallas got me motivated to build new type I decks. Originally it was based on a recursion deck by Mark Hernandez. His deck used 4 Hurkyl's Recall to build a huge amount of colorless and create an extended turn by Timetwistering untill you draw the Torch to finish. Since it's such a fun deck to play solotaire with I built a copy and even played in a sanctioned tournament with it. My only win that day was to the unluckiest player ever...Chris Pikula. Oh man, he was amazed that he lost to it. Once I figured out that Type I was never going to be played much ever again after the "Inquest Farewell to Type I Tournament Season" I started to tune the deck simply for solotaire play. The goal being to win as fast as possible assuming no opponent interruption. That's where the deck stands now, although it certainly has no problem beating a live opponent with the right matchup. I was trying so hard to hustle at PTLA '98 with this deck because everyone was using zoo and I could win fast enough against it that thier threats meant little. Aside from Force of Will there is still very little that can get out fast enough to stop the speed of this deck. Right now this deck wins 5% of the time on the 1st turn 10% on the 2nd turn and 75% on the third turn. It's damn fast. Here is a little FAQ on the deck:

This is so Janky, why the hell are there Lotus Petals and Spirit Guides in it?
Raw speed. The Petals help the deck cast multiple colored cards on the 1st turn without moxen. The Spirit Guides allow you to Forgotton Lore without tapping a land, very key in getting the early kill. Most decks similar to this one won't use these cards and insted fill the slots with defensive cards, usually countermagic.

Why no Braingeyser?
Once I have enough mana to effectively use it I should be casting Timetwister multiple times a turn for better card economy. It's also very difficult for this deck to Braingeyser kill. Having only 1 Hurkyl's Recall generally makes it difficult to obtain over 50 mana consistanly.

This deck only has 12 lands, Mox Diamond...what are you smoking?
The addition of Mox Diamond allows you to effectively play multiples lands a turn without having a Fastbond. While not a 100% synergetic card, the effect is still a handsome benefit to the deck.

Um, where did the Mox Pearl and Sol Ring go?
They were replaced by the Mox Diamonds. Mox Pearl and Sol Ring effectively net a gain of 1 colorless mana when played. The Mox Diamonds have the potential to create a net of 1 mana of ANY color. The biggest problem with the deck is getting enough mana, of the right color, very early. Pearl and Sol Ring didn't do enough to solve that problem. If I need colorless Mana Vaults and Mana Crypts are better tuned for the job neting 2 colorless when played with virtually no drawback.

I hope everyone has a better understanding of the deck now, if you have any questions or comments let me know.
