An Autumn Leaf's Flight

Beauty in the shape of a hand
It falls to the earth with meandering pace
Like a butterfly finding its flower
Like a child who has lost its mother

It lays there, lifeless, on the cold floor
Its life finished
Its journey ended
Until someone steps in its grave it will remain there

Someone comes
A brief journey again
Resurrected for the glory of flight
It soars through the air only to land again

It lies among its brothers and sisters
Cold and alone
Left with only the glimmer of hope
Sighing, it says, "Until next time", as it dies again
