Solos, stage parts and dancing parts in musical theater productions are optional. Participation in these capacities, particularly solo roles and dancing parts, may also be subject to a selection process based on auditions. Productions offer a variety of roles of varying length and complexity, so roles may be available for interested persons with either limited or more extensive experience, as the case may be.
Choir portions will include instrumental accompaniment, sometimes from several instruments or instrumentalists. While instrumentalists may at any time indicate their interest in participating as an instrumental accompanist or member of the pit band, participation as an instrumentalist is usually reserved for fairly accomplished professional or semiprofessional musicians.
